No, I had to click the link too. What did you use to format it? <*a href> or <*lj-cut text=>?

That just works the same as if you click the link to the entry, except it hides part of the text.

You might want to use the <*a href> instead to get it to work like you want.

Put this instead of the lj-cut, and delete the *. It should work.
