In the "this is weird" thoughts:
I remember, in college, thinking it was interesting that it was very much a thing for professors to invite their classes over their houses. That never happened in high school! Well, the geometry teacher would sometimes invite some students to his gorgeous lake house. But only the super popular kids.
In college, it was quite a mix of characters!
One was a butch flannel-shirt lesbian (okay, we all only wore flannel shirts in the early/mid 90s) who lived in a log cabin with her bookend partner and would serve us frank and beans around a campfire.
Another would like to hang around the campfire, too. But he'd put weed in his ten person hookah and we'd all share while his rooster and chickens ran around.
Another was elegant and lived just right across the street from the school. Her house was full of art and she always served us really really huge platters of sushi.
Another never invited us home, but out to the bars. He was a strong teacher and attractive and he was known to have debatably inappropriate relationships with other professors but I never heard solid gossip about a student. But he never made us uncomfortable, but given his reputation we weren't sure if we should feel awkward he bought us lots of beer.
Bridget and Fiona have also never been to a teacher's house. But they've now seen much of the inside of ALL of them. Which is interesting. I know a lot of kids don't intellectualize that their teachers have lives. Like, they are really thrown off when they see them in the grocery store and such. I wonder if small things like this will change any future vibes.
