Mattel, WTF?
Ok so I have a Niece who is just about to hit Doll stage and I want to get her first one for he, normally I go for the odd ones, not barbie but some of the other ones in the set, well I want to get her a Skipper doll, namley because Skipper is cooler than Barbie* well guess what, Mattel doesn't make Skipper anymore.
* ok, Barbie is named for her "creator"s daughter Barbra, and Ken for her son, therefore they cannot be a couple, and Mattel actually had them officially break up a few years ago, now as we know since 59 Barbie has held a pile of [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbie%27s_careers]Jobs[/url]' off hand I can think of Astronaut, stewardess, pilot, mcdonalds cashier, different branches of the military, and originally when she was still a teen she was just a fashion model. Now Barbie has also owned a lot of stuff too, 57 chevy's, a van, several corvettes, ferarris, Dream houses, now you tell me, where does she get the cash for this????
Simple, Barbie Roberts is married to a young man named GI Joe, and as we all Know Joe has been in the military aparently since he got out of Highschool, we know he served in Nam, and anyone who says otherwise is a lying bastard.
Barbie has since they married probably shortly after graduation (It was the pre hippie 60s) Ken joined the military and in probably 61 or 62 (it started in 59)
and shipped out, and Barbie lived on his paycheck spending it on whatever frivolous little thing she wanted.
sure Nam ended in 75 and came home, aparently but if you recall after Nam he went out on all these adventures from 70 to 76, when he was finally phased out.
where he went we dont know, but in the late 90's he came back.
George and Margret Roberts had a daughter Barbie, and a daughter Skipper, what about Kelly? you ask. Simple, she is Barbies Daughter. concieved either with Joe or some liason on the side but Not with Ken, Why do I say this, Ken is named for the Real Barbie's Brother therefore it is just wrong that they be a couple. Ken is Barbies Gay Hairdresser.
But I digress from the Rant, and ask, Mattel, why did you kill Skipper?
by now you are probably asking, where did I get these names from? Well Mattel has one other problem, you see there is a full backstory for Barbie but they dont tell it anymore they just treat Barbie as some sort of Social Butterfly with ADD. every season something changes.
How hard would it be to put a booklet in the packages or a website explaining the background of Barbie.
