[real life] Nature's way of fucking us over

Mar 11, 2011 01:24

So my brother calls me at 1am in a panic because he heard an earthquake (and then tsunami) hit northern japan, and he wanted to know what part of japan my sister's Air Force Base is in.

She's at Misawa AFB in Aomori prefecture, and I haven't talked to her since yesterday. I had to hang up then because my phone was out of power. Oh, gawd. I do not want the last thing I ever say to her to be some random shit talk about video games and then "oh, hang on, I'll talk to you later. my phone's about to die."

Please, if anyone lives in japan, tell me if the tsunamis or whatever hit Misawa, Aomori Prefecture. Please. My sister, Tracy, and my friend Greg are both stationed there, and I can't get any news about whether the city is still standing. All I know is that the Aomori Live Test is offline (and my brother says that that wouldn't happen unless the tower was gone).

No news is BAD NEWS for someone with a weak heart.  Save my sanity. Tell me Misawa and Misawa AFB are both still standing and not drowning under the force of a 10 meter tsunami.

Edit: I called the red cross and asked them to check on her. they said they'd call back. That's what they're there for, right? right?
