ANGELIC PRETTY
[link]A well-known brand of lolita fashion, Angelic Pretty produce some of the most wanted prints in the lolita world. Their designs are very fluffy & cute! They are known affectionately as AP, & their style is sweet & deco lolita. While ap items can be a bit expensive, it is clearly visible why it is so. although not top tailor level, the quality of the dresses are quite high. Their fabrics tend to be thicker & soft, & the jumperskirts & onepieces mostly come with a built-in pannier or inner skirt. Detail is obviously one of ap's best selling points. Their items are often desgined sporting cute little details like ribbons, pearls, motifs, lace & such cute things. Their prints are thought about deeply & they make their items available in a wide range of colours, to suit a wide range of styles & tastes. They have a lovely English website but things from the Japanese website do not always make it to the English one. Also, the english orders are usually handled by AP, then by an in between delivery center, so sometimes it takes a while longer to order & for parcels to actually arrive at the destination.

BABY, THE STARS SHINE BRIGHT
[link]Another popular brand, Baby (as they are often known), makes some beautiful prints. Their style is probably a little more sophisticated than AP's style, drawing a little from the classical style of lolita. Prints are usually drawn from cute animals, delicate flowers and beautiful characters. Their style is best described as sweet & classic. The prints are more mild & subtle & their details are less extravagant. They have a similar price range as AP. Furthermore, many of their items are made in Japan.

EMILY TEMPLE CUTE
[link]A cute otome, casual style lolita brand, known fondly as Emikyu! Cute prints that are not as cluttered as AP or Baby but clean and neat. They vary from Rabbits, to bows, to Macarons and other cute items. Their style is a little more casual, and in general, the skirts and skirt area of dresses tend to be narrower than most over-the-top lolita brands. The sizes tend to be on the smaller side and Emikyu dresses often do not come with shirring. Also, I believe, all their dresses are made in Japan, which may account for the prices being quite high. Most notable about this brand is the lack of a unified online store and website. Only individual shop blogs are available. This means a difficult time for international buyers since there is no overseas webshop. A shopping service is required to purchase from Emikyu.

INNOCENT WORLD
[link]A wonderful classic lolita brand. Innocent World brings back some olden day romantic clothing, usually in a child-like style. Their clothes are high quality & the fabrics they use are gentle & soft. The dresses are in simple styles, with little superfluous detail on the dresses. The details lay in their prints. Their prints remind us of a Victorian child's toybox & lifestyle, full of wooden toys, porcelain dolls & dollhouses, tea parties & other such innocent & simple past times. The price you pay for Innocent World items are quite expensive, especially for such light items. But it's important to note, that some Innocent World items are made in Japan. Their dresses do not have built in panniers usually, but they do have satin linings. Innocent World now have a wonderfully easy to use English website. It contains everything available on the Japanese website, including the same sales.

METAMORPHOSE TEMPS DE FILLE
[link]A cute brand from Japan, knwon to girls as Meta. They are girls who make clothes for other girls. Their clothing ranges many styles, from sweet, deco, classic and even vintage lolita! Their prints vary from style to style. They have animal prints, fruit prints, flower prints & sweets prints. Their price bracket is a little lower than Tnnocent World, AP & Baby, but their quality is very much on par. Their details, like bows & waist ties, are usually all removable, leaving the choice up to the owner, whether they want everything on, or off. Their english site is run by the actual company itself, not by an external unit. They ship from directly from the company, not through a delivery center (like AP). Sometimes, if a member orders enough, they earn points on their system, which one can use as credit next time they purchase from Meta. One downside: when using credit card the items purchased must be addressed to the owner of the card. so if you use your mother's card, the parcel should be addressed to your mother! Their parcels arrive quickly & well-packaged, so be prepared to receive your items soon after you place an order!

INDIE BRANDS
ANNA HOUSE (Hong Kong)
[link]An indie lolita brand, gaining more & more exposure recently for their items. Anna House is located in Hong Kong & they sell their own lolita items. Their items are fair priced, & is good for the first step to move up from being a starter lolita. Basically, their items are what you pay for. While the quality is not horrendous, it is not as high quality as the major brands. Their designs are very simple as are their prints (when they have prints). They tend towards the sweet lolita side, most of their items being shown in baby pink or blue. They are great for accessories when you don't want to pay US$50 for a pair of socks or a hairbow. They are good to communicate with & have reasonable shipping (as they only use registered parcel).

BODYLINE (China/Japan)
[link]Bodyline is a starter lolita brand. their items are made in china and are average quality depending on what you buy. their items are cheap & they do some replicas of AP & Innocent World. It's a good place to buy a jumperskirt, a skirt or a blouse to see if you like the lolita style! They have many items, ranging in style & colour. They also have items that a well-immersed lolita would buy. Things like a skirt to wear on everyday, hair bows, simple accessories & such (because most people would not want to wear a $350 dress around for everyday!) Their fabrics are a little harsher than the other brands but their panniers are great if you want to buy an extra one for that extra POOF!

DEAR CELINE (China)
[link]Dear Celine have established for themselves a large China fan base. The quality of their items are really quite high, regarding the tailoring & their materials. Their style is sweet & classical. Their items have a very elegant touch but are also cute, too. They have a nice range of designs & fabrics, including velveteen, cotton, satin & such. They have a few cute prints (all which sold out quickly) and simple design. Their selling point is the fact that they do custom made sizing over a range of styles. Dear Celine often have new styles coming out & sometimes old styles are re-released for those who missed out the first time. After the item is made, shipping is incredibly fast, using Chinese EMS (equivalent to the Japanese EMS). You can get the items straight from their TaoBao site or for English or International orders, their agent is qutieland (
qcute ). Dear Celine is highly recommended for those who are trying out lolita, can't find their size with brand items or are looking for more different styles.

MEW (Korea)
A cute Korean indie designer. MEW makes all the designs herself from print to dress style! So far she has released several prints including Crown Ribbon, Strawberry Cream and Lief. Crown Ribbons is available as a jumperskirt which is made of a velveteen fabric. A simple design, the main feature is the crown & ribbon print at the bottom of the jumperskirt. It comes in a variety of classic colours. The dress is very elegant classic style. Her second design is Strawberry Cream. A cute, sweet design, the print incoporates strawberries, sweets, cakes, cream & other goodies. The print comes on a jumperskirt & on a onepiece, in a few colours. Her latest work, Lief, reminds us of a sweet country garden with soft pastel colours and also black. Very adorable.

LIEF (Korea)
[link]Mew and Lief's joint brand (?). This little korean indie brand makes beautiful indie prints! Their prints are wide ranging including their first collaboration print - Gardenberry Rabbit and Crochet (a mori/foresty style), their second print Aster Cafe (country/sweet style), Royal Ornament Regimental Stripe (a military lolita style) and their latest print, Sacred Night (long gothic/classical style). Their products are high quality and not lacking anything that the major brands have. Beautiful and detailed photoshoots and photos give the buyer reassurance as to the item's appearance. With beautiful, simple dress and skirt designs and cuts coupled with gorgeous unique prints, Lief is a worthy brand from which to purchase.
