January went by quickly...

...Even though I was only working part-time. :p I hadn't been sleeping well because my hours got cut, but at least it gave me time to figure out what I want to do with myself when it comes to future employment. I've decided to go back to school and get some kind of Accounting degree or certificate. Getting a second baccalaureate will be expensive, but so as not to get ahead of myself, I'm just going to start the associate's degree program for business with a concentration in accounting over at RCC. I'm tired of having such limited maneuverability because of my current job skills, and accountants are ALWAYS needed, esp. in a bad economy, so I figure why not? I'm great at details and love math. I LOVE statistics and would have majored in it had time permitted (I minored instead), so I'm hoping this might work for me.

Since I am working for the time being (thankfully) I'll have to take night classes. I got to enroll yesterday and picked up intro to accounting and business classes and a management communications class. I'm wondering if I can handle the workload, but I'm hoping I can manage three classes esp. since the semester is 16 WHOLE WEEKS. Such a glacial pace compared to the quarter system! So I hope it all evens out. Classes start February 17th, and I'm planning on heading over to the campus to see if I can figure out what books I need so I can order them for less online. I'm also hoping to score a walk-in counseling appointment to figure out more accounting options. But I can't get too far ahead of myself. We'll see how this semester goes... there's nothing that motivates quite like having a job with no upward prospects. I'm hoping the job I currently have will last to get me through school. *fingers crossed*

Speaking of bad economy... Michael and I are trying to do our part to "stimulate" the economy by continuing to buy buy buy. :p He really wants to buy an HDTV (he's been wanting one for a couple of years now), and we're hoping to pick one up this weekend. I don't know how wise it is though, but we're going to get it anyway since we're getting one that's reasonably priced and he deserves one. (I buy all this loli, so it's about time he should be able to get something nice for himself!) But because the state is still at an impasse regarding the state budget, we now have to wonder month to month if he will be getting a paycheck or an IOU. This month went through, and apparently it will too for March, but we have to wait for the first of each month to see if he'll get the next month's paycheck. So come March 1st we'll know if he gets his check or April and so on... It's really rather scary. The only payment I'd worry about being able to make is the mortgage (I think we can sqeak by with everything else), but apparently we should be able to call our lender to let them know the situation and they should be able to accomodate us... I hope. So again, fingers crossed. Unsettling times indeed, but we're thinking we'll be okay at least for now.
