Netto's trip to the Nexus where he'd talked to Shiroi Enzan and Searchman, and even his attempts to get on Knightman's nerves, seemed like they'd happened a lifetime ago.

Dark Rock opened Netto's door as quietly as he could, shutting it behind him just as quietly. He had been worried when Netto had come home and gone straight to bed without saying anything.

Creeping over to kneel by the bed, Dark Rock whispered, "Netto-kun?"

Netto was awake, of course. He even had his eyes open, although maybe Dark Rock hadn't noticed that. He shifted in his bed, letting Dark Rock know he was awake. "Yeah?" he said quietly, trying not to let on what he was feeling.

"I was worried about you." Dark Rock shifted so he sitting more comfortably, his arms resting on the edge of the bed, "Are you feeling alright?"

Netto hesitated. He didn't want to tell Dark Rock what had really happened, but he didn't want to lie, either. "I feel sick," he admitted. "And I can't sleep." And I still can't feel you. What did that Dark Chip do to me?

Loneliness warred with the desire to hide from the world. It wasn't surprising which one won out. Netto scooted over in the bed, trying to swallow a lump in his throat. He wasn't used to having no one in his head. "If you want to."

Crawling up onto the bed next to Netto, Dark Rock cuddled up against him and resumed petting his hair, "I'll stay for as long as you want me to."

Netto closed his eyes. The petting felt good. He let his arms wrap around Dark Rock, hugging him tight. It wasn't the same, but it was close enough.

"How'd you know I wasn't feeling well?"

"'Cause you didn't even talk to anyone before you went to bed." Dark Rock rested his head against Netto's, making vaguely comforting noises.

He hesitated to bring it up. He didn't want Dark Rock to realize something was wrong. Not just him not feeling well, but seriously wrong. But he had to know. "You didn't... feel me?"

"Now that you mention it, I didn't feel you." A concerned look crossed Dark Rock's face, "That's strange...I still can't feel you."

"I can't feel you, either." But he didn't want Dark Rock to think about it too much, so he added, "Maybe because I'm sick. It'll probably go back to normal when I'm better." He hoped it would, anyway.

Dark Rock thought that that explanation was a little weird, but it was the only one he had, "Maybe...we'll just have to wait and see."

He settled down and cuddled against Netto some more, "You should sleep. You need all the rest you can get."

He didn't want to sleep. He didn't want to face the nightmares again. But maybe it wouldn't be so bad with Dark Rock next to him. He was so tired.

He closed his eyes. "Don't leave me," he whispered. Consciousness was already starting to fade.
