I didn't notice as much with Feliciano - just maybe that he could have been a bit more hyper. Also, there was one little thing that stood out about his dialogue - he always addressed Ludwig in third person (he rarely said "you", even when talking directly to him). I thought that was kind of cute so in that sense it suited him, but I just wasn't sure what basis it had in Italy's official character.

Overall, I think the issue is that Hetalia's characters are very exaggerated, and Italy and Germany are so different, because that's what makes the comedy work. Since this story is more serious/life-like, it would be hard to keep them acting so extreme, so they seemed a bit "toned down" in comparison to their official characters. Also, like I mentioned before, Ludwig and Feliciano already being married for several years would mean their relationship wouldn't be the same as that of the official Italy and Germany - they would be more understanding of each other and would have developed methods of dealing with each other's quirks. So in that sense, I think it makes sense for the characters to vary a little from how they act in the manga/anime.
