summary: "Everybody deserves to spend their special day with the person they love, so why can't he?"

"But you promised", Junsu simply says. He's standing in the middle of the kitchen with his knuckles almost while from hanging onto the telephone. His eyes are fixed on the floor and they can't seem to move.

"But you promised", he tries again. There's a sad tone in his voice and the person on the other line catches it right away, but there isn't much he can do. Work is work, Junsu knows it as well, but tomorrow's the 15th of December. Junsu slowly walks towards the fridge and looks at the little strawberry and cream cake he bought that morning; it doesn't look as tasty as in the moment he decided to buy it. To be honest, he'd rather throw it away in the trash than eat it by himself. Actually, he could give it to his mother as a gift, she would probably enjoy it ten times more.

"I know, it's just I thought we…uhm…could…never mind." he whispers while putting down two tickets for a musical he desperately wanted to see for a while. Jaejoong also wanted to see it, maybe they could go together, but knowing Jae, he probably had already planned something with someone else.

Junsu is tired of hearing Yoochun's excuses. He's tired of hearing the word 'sorry'. He's tired of always having to surrender. He's tired of always being alone during those important days.

Sometimes he wonders what Yoochun would pick between him or his job. At the idea of being the second choice, his heart aches so bad he has to sit down for a moment.

"Yeah. I'll try to have fun. Thanks. I love you, bye."

Because in the end, it's true. Kim Junsu loves Park Yoochun. He even wrote it on a bench in the park with a black marker. Love is more important than birthdays, right? Right. It's not a big deal, there's always next year.

Junsu puts down the telephone and suddenly something rubs against his leg, making him jump a little. Looking down, he sees his cat moving its tail happily and purring loudly. "I guess it's gonna be just me and you, uh? Come here, Leo!" he says picking up his beloved puppy and kissing his furry head. With the thought of cats being way better than human beings, he goes out to have a drink.

He comes home with the same thought, though. He also comes home with a headache that could kill Godzilla and the wallet a bit lighter. He doesn't mind at all, truth be told; tomorrow it's his birthday and so Junsu decides he can do whatever he wants. He could even go to Disneyland and buy four kilos of white chocolate just because he feels like doing it. Who cares if he's alone, who cares if he doesn't have anyone to blow candles with, who cares if all he gets is some texts from his friends and a couple of cheap birthday cards. Yeah Junsu, who cares?

"It's settled, then. Tomorrow we're going to the spa and then to the theatre. We could eat pizza and play ping pong. Oh, I can teach you how to play FIFA! I bet you'd love it as much as Yoochun does!" Junsu exclaims with Leo held tight in his arms. "And then we'll tell Yoochun what a beautiful and fun day he missed!" Leo meows and gently puts his paw on Junsu's left cheek. Even his cat knows that that was the biggest lie he'd ever told. Without Yoochun his birthday would simply suck, but he obviously couldn't go on set and drag him home. He understands that being an actor is not easy and stuff, but he can't help but feel sad and lonely. Junsu had always put Yoochun on top of everything: his career as a musical actor, his family, his friends, even himself. Why couldn't Yoochun do the same?

He goes to bed at one o'clock in the morning after answering some happy birthdays texts his friends sent him. He tries not to pay attention to the cold spot next to him but every time he reaches out to touch it, his heart dies a little; Junsu decides to replace that empty space with a couple of pillows just to give the impression of a body underneath the sheets. The result? It just doesn't work.

It doesn't work at all and Junsu is mad. He's mad at Yoochun for ruining his birthday, he's mad at himself for caring too much, he's mad at the world because that's just unfair. Everybody deserves to spend their special day with the person they love, so why can't he?

Junsu falls asleep with his cellphone in his hand and a light blanket that barely reaches his feet. When he wakes up the morning after, he founds himself under the covers and the cellphone lies quietly on the night table. Leo is still asleep at the end of the bed, waving its tail in a slow and calm way. When he tries to shift position and roll to the other side, something that resembles an arm is weakly wrapped around his waist, making him almost paralyzed. Junsu also feels a warm pair of legs tangled between his own, and the feeling of something else pressing against him wakes him up in a matter of seconds. "Stop moving", the person literally glued behind Junsu mumbles, holding him even tighter -if possible-. Junsu knows that deep voice. Oh, he knows it too well to be wrong. A smile slowly appears on his chapped lips and the urge to face his boyfriend forces him to -not so gracefully- turn around. "Why are you home?" Yoochun lazily opens his sleepy eyes and tries to focus on the other's words. "Because it's your birthday." he simply answers, pressing a tender kiss onto his lover's lips. Junsu gently pushes him away and rests his head on this hand. "You said you couldn't come, what about the movie?". "I told everybody about my so-very-sad wife at home, so the director gave me a day off. Aren't you happy?" Yoochun's hands wander under Junsu's loose t-shirt, caressing his skin. "I couldn't ask for more." the younger finally replies, closing his eyes and erasing the distance between their lips for a second time.

When Yoochun asks about his plans for the day, Junsu simply tells him that he doesn't mind staying in bed until seven o'clock in the evening. "But…what about my present for you? Aren't you curious?". "You already gave it to me by being here," the younger says, "and that's the best present I could ever receive..".
