Lightning

One word, one moment, one rush. A thousand bolts of lighting striking one person without any warning. Shock, the mind unable to comprehend what just happned. The body stiffens, the eyes stare, the breath halts. Seconds turn into eternities, time stands still as the entire being freezes.Then, overwhelming pain. The eyes blink, burning with tears. The head lowers in shame. The throat swallows in an attempt to open itself up again. The limbs become mechanical at first, and then turn to mud. The body falls. The mind churns, trying to process what has transpired. The stomach knots and the breath is ragged. Eventually the self pulls back together and goes on with life. It cannot, however, forget the incident with the lightning.
