Last night I had a zombie dream. It wasn't a particularly freaky zombie dream, mostly it involved trying to get from safe place to safe place so as to avoid impending zombie arrival. Then it turned into a dream where I was covering myself with glitter in my parents' bathroom for no reason and had to leave quickly when it turned out some friend of my sister's was in the shower. It reminded me of the other zombie dream I had a few months ago, though. That one was more scary, because it was one of my dreams that run like a movie where events actually hang together to form a consistent narrative instead of just being random stuff happening for no reason.
In that dream, the zombie apocalypse had happened, and there were zombies everywhere but they acted basically normal except for the whole eating people thing. I was in the homeschool co-op building I used to go to as a kid, only the room I was standing in was not an actual room in the building that exists; it looked like a science lab. I was in there with a golden retriever which could smell zombies, and the dog acted like something was outside the door and this scared me, but it turned out to be the guy I liked irl (who is now my bf), who was there because he wanted a job at the store I worked at in the dream, and wanted to ask me if they were hiring. Then he sort of disappeared as people do in dreams, and I went out into the hall and saw a fat zombie sitting on a chair with a dead guy in his hands, and I looked away and left in a hurry because I knew he was about to eat the dead guy. Then I was holding the hand of a small girl, who was my niece in the dream (though I didn't have any thought of her actually being the child of one of my siblings, she was just somehow my niece.) I was in the homeschool co-op with her; it was now zombie headquarters and all children of a certain age had to be left there ostensibly for safekeeping but in reality I knew it was because the zombies wanted to eat them. But in my dream there was no way I could possibly rescue her and I had no choice but to leave her there, so I gave her a hug goodbye and as I walked away I heard them locking the doors so no one would get out. Then I woke up and felt both really depressed and really relieved (about it being just a dream.)
I don't really know whence these dreams originated. I'm not particularly interested in zombies.
