I'm back in Vienna since Sunday and today I finally managed to get my internet working.
France was great. We traveled through Italy to get there and spent 3 days at a camp site near Portofino and the "Cinque Terre". Unfortunately the weather wasn't very good there, so we didn't swim in the ocean. We drove further into France and slept one night next to the highway at a parking site. There I found out that my favorite cheese was still produced in France and we bought some. I can't tell you how delicious it was.
We ignored Monaco and Nice and found a camp site about 72 kilometers after Cannes at the beach. We stayed there for a whole week. During the day we enjoyed the sun, lying in the warm sand and swimming in the ocean. The water was so clear that I could see the ground even in deeper areas. In the evening we played cards and parlor games. Two times I went to the beach at night and watched the starlit sky. It was a magical moment there, the wind in my face, the smell of salt and ocean, the silver light of the moon and stars, the sound of the waves. It was so peaceful, I could have sat there until the sun rose, but I had to get back in, the gate to the camp site was closed at midnight every day.
We took the train to Cannes one day. The film festival wasn't taking place at that day, but the city was awe-inspiring and beautiful all the same. The Boulevard de la Croisette was lovely. The only drawback where the prices. They were astronomical, but we expected that. My brother wanted to go to the casino. He had learned Poker and wanted to play. We didn't have the time that day and he was a little disappointed.
On our way home we visited Nice. Also a very beautiful city, but we didn't do much except eating breakfast there. Monaco, especially Monte Carlo was much more interesting. I rarely saw that much swank in one place. The cars, the buildings, the shops, everything. We had difficulties finding a place to park our mobile home, but finally we succeeded. We all donned our best clothes and went to the casino. It's not easy to describe. A palace of gold and marble, the carpets were so thick that I thought I could sink into them up to my knees. Women with diamonds on their fingers, necks and ears, men with expensive suits and packs of chips with high numbers on them in front of them on the table. I won a little bit at the gambling machines and went with that money to the only roulette table with a limit lower than 10 Euro. No surprise that I lost it faster than I won it. I nearly didn't sit down there, seeing all the other people with their bulks of chips and how easy they bet on the numbers. I felt intimidated with my four 5-Euro-chips among all this rich people.
We spent the night on the parking site of a police station. We all joked that we would find ourself in the middle of a special mission during the night, with police men with guns and weapons swarming around our mobile home.
The next day we visited the Musée Océanographique de Monaco, the oceanographic museum in Monaco Ville. When I went through I wanted to start studying marine biology right then and there. We had lunch in the roof restaurant and took a few last pictures of Monaco after buying souvenirs (for me a blue fan with silver fish and the logo of the museum on it, and a bottle of perfume), then we had to hit the road.
As I said, I'm back in Vienna for two days now. I started my second practice because in Althofen I wasn't allowed to do electrotherapy. I have to do that now. My new colleagues seem to be nice, my boss said, as I wouldn't be paid and my time there was so short, I could come and go as it pleases me. I love my work. I even missed it during the first few days of my holiday.
Tomorrow I'll try and upload a few pictures.
Until then I wish you all a good night and sweet dreams!
