I feel really bad when a day goes swell for me, 'cause I wonder why I get to be spoiled like so!
One person's trash is really another's treasure
My dad and I went to this house across our street that was undergoing a moving sale! My dad was looking for a dinner table for our house, and I just wanted to look around. I saw four stuffed animals by the fireplace, and a stuffed white pony caught my attention. I always wanted a stuffed horse, and I'm jealous that my 10 year old cousin has so many! I can't even think of one I might have. The stuffed toys were going for $1, which I thought might be a fair price (more than fair, actually, but I'm stingy). My dad told me to get one for my sister, too, so I took a teddy bear as well. I glanced at the last two, but I didn't know what they were. One looked like Zazu, but he was totally white! The Zazu I remembered from Lion King was blue, so I wondered if it was a knock-off, even though there was a "Disney" and "Zazu" tag and everything. I couldn't find a tag on the other.
So after I got home, I was checking the internet for "white Zazu". Apparently, in the Lion King Broadway Musical, Zazu is a white puppet controlled by a person who is dressed in black, sports a bowler hat, and has his face painted white and blue. I thought that was pretty interesting, because, well, I wondered what significance Zazu might have, being stripped of his color like that, but his "actor" has his face painted with those very colors. Oh, here's a picture!
I practically mulled over, wondering if I should head back to my neighbor's to buy Zazu. After awhile, I decided to go ahead and do it. It's Disney, and it was only a buck. I ditched my breakfast and headed over there with my wallet. I picked up the white Zazu, leaving the strange stuffed lion to itself, and went over to the lady to pay. The lady asked me if I was "back for more," to which I could only smile and nod. Another lady glanced over at the fireplace and noticed all but one of the stuffed animals were gone, and asked if I might want to buy the last one as well. I told her I only had a dollar, but in truth I wasn't sure if I should. She told me the other one was from the Lion King too, and I could only ask, "Oh, really?"
Then she went ahead and presented me with the lion, saying I could have him too because I was such a good neighbor. "Wooow, really? Thaaanks!" was all I could say. She tells me to take care of them, to which the other lady says, "Of course she will." I had a happy trip home, even though it was just a short walk.
I was curious how both of the stuffed animals went for, since I've never seen them before (and heck, they're Disney!) so I typed in "Lion King Broadway" on eBay and went through the pages to look for the lion that matched the one I just bought. Turns out that one's Simba! Whoooa, it was such a shocker, because he looks totally different!
That's my Zazu and Simba. n_n It turns out Simba goes for like, $20 and Zazu is about $18 on eBay. It must be really special, too, because it's from the Lion King Broadway! I bet you can only get it if you attend the show and its souvenir booths during intermissions! Wow, they must have spent a lot to get their hands on these. ^^; After that, I spent a good hour or two Youtubing "Lion King" and its Broadway Musical. That was some good nostalgia.
Then I took a look at my horse, 'cause I wondered where it was from. (After all, it had "
World famous Lipizzaner Stallions" on it!) It had a website listed on its tag, and I paid a visit. Guess what they are? Horses that dance! On stage! I poked around the site looking to see if they had this stuffed one on sale, and I could only find a 2005 one (I have the 2004). It was sold out on that site. On eBay, there's a 2007 one that's going for $17, so I would think mine should be around that range, if not higher. |D
Isn't it cute? XD Of course I went and Youtube'd these ponies, too. I wanted to see them dance!
In short, I had an awesome haul. I feel really lucky. It's pretty amazing what kind of idea you can get of people's lifestyle just looking at their stuff-- even if it's just stuffed animals. It can say a lot about someone's lifestyle! In this case, I felt these neighbors appreciated the finer arts. They watch stage plays AND buy their souvenirs. That's totally high class!
Then this had to come in the mail..
Granted, I don't have a working DVD player yet, but gah. I really did cave in and buy this, but that's fine! It was a sweet deal and.. and I don't regret this. @_@ I popped it in my computer, and I can only say that having the actual DVD makes the experience of watching this THAT much better. |D
The rest of the night, my family helped out at the church to wash dishes from some banquet that was a fundraiser for the Ghana project it's running, and now every single family member of mine is sore. XD I'm tired and I want to head off to bed now!
