Besting the Rest

I have found what I want to do for Halloween this year... http://www.costumeloft.com/gallery/gallery_categories/category_uniforms.htm

#279, the Red Coat. I'm going to drop the hat though and use one I already own, and this outfit may not be necessarily purchased from this supplier also... I might make my own to satisfy my OCD about being historically accurate about every last detail. In any case, I figured it was time to move on from my Jack Sparrow costume (which at the costume contest won second place). This is something I've wanted to do ever since I saw the advertisement for American Revolutionary War reenactors who could serve in the (fake) Tenth Regiment of Foot.

This wouldn't be the only regiment of its kind here in the states, but the point being is that if I ever have the opportunity to participate in one of these, I will have the outfit for it. My pattern of costumes has always taken a much more classical or antiquated approach, so its anyone's guess as to what I will do after this one. I'm expecting at the most, this costume will run about $250. The coat and pants will probably be made for about $190 of material, while I will probably have to buy the boots and powder horns, straps and buttons for authenticity. I feel kind of naive to be discussing this considering how my financial situation is right now, but I can imagine that I will have a hefty chunk of change after I return to work in June.

In other news, turns out I was right about Hot Fuzz. Came in 6th this weekend...
