Sophia heaved a huge sigh as she finished her homework, sliding the papers into her new binder. The binder went into her backpack, and she set the backpack by the door, ready for school tomorrow.
...
Then she ran back through the house to the kitchen, calling for her sister. "Elena! Are you done? Come ooOOoooon! I finished hours ago!"
Elena looked up from her math sheet. "Hold on! My homework's harder than yours."
"Stop bragging and hurry up!" Sophia flopped onto the table with a groan. "You always take forever! If you don't hurry, it's gonna be too late!"
"I'm not bragging; it's just true." Elena's eyes rolled as she pulled her finished pages from under her sister's arms. "And it won't be too late. Besides, mom said if our homework and chores aren't done we can't do it at all." She eyed her younger sister. "You did do your chores, right?"
"..." Sophia mumbled something into the table, and Elena leaned forward to poke her with a pencil.
"Sophie..." That was totally Elena's Gonna Tell voice.
"Fine!" Sophia flew up from the table and turned to stomp her way up the stairs.
Elena shook her head and went back to her homework. It was an hour later that the girls were done with everything and they were given permission to call their 'cousin' in Glacia:
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY KAYLA!!!!"
