Appearance:

Apropos is Caucasian, of average height (if not a bit on the tall side), and has curly red hair. His eyes are a shade of a grey and his nose is (somewhat noticeably) a bit crooked from having been broken a couple of times. Apropos is a fit guy although his upper body is built better than his lower body. This is because he's grown used to hauling part himself around - his right leg is lame and all but useless. He has a birthmark on his hip resembling a flame.

Personality:

First and foremost Apropos is a cynical realist. He calls things the way he sees them and the way that he knows them to be, not caring for people's 'happily ever after's, so to speak. He's also a bit of an opportunist, using whatever situation or occurrence is at hand with little regard for others. His priority above all else, after all, is usually his own self-preservation - although he has come to care, somewhat, about how the consequences of his actions and words will affect others. Apropos is intelligent, persistent, and not much at all for trusting others.

Strengths/Abilities:

Being a regular human, Apropos doesn't have anything too unusual going for him. He is a fit individual with a strong upper body. He has decent, if not good, woodcraft and has been trained in how to use a sword as well as his staff.

The staff could also be considered a strength as it can be used for fighting, storing small objects, as well as helping him to move around. It is almost as tall as he is, made of wood, and comes apart at the center to be used as two weapons if the need arises. It has a metal ornament on the top of it of a lion and a dragon fighting - with the dragons mouth open to allow for a small, about four inch, knife to extend outward when the release is pressed.

Apropos is a self-titled 'master of fabrication' and has talked himself out of trouble, and into others' good graces, many times. He's quick-witted and also reacts quickly to goings on.

Lastly, he has.. interesting luck, which may or may not be a strength when all's said and done, and has shown to have a bit of an ability with Weaving (magic). The extent of this, as of the first book, however, is merely being able to see the 'Threads' that Weavers use.

Weaknesses:

Apropos is only human, and one with a lame leg at that. He's no more stronger or weaker than any other normal human would be and currently possesses no truly unnatural abilities.

I.. suppose the fact that he doesn't do all that well around blood could count? :|

History:

There are several typos in this right now - I'm sorry! DX I'll fix them later, definitely.

Apropos was conceived when his mother (Madelyne), who worked at a tavern in a small town in the kingdom of Isteria, was gang-raped by a group of knights. When he was born, he was nearly put to death by the tavern's owner, but bit the man's neck which, for whatever reason, amused him enough to keep the babe around.

Apropos spent the next fifteen, possibly sixteen, or so years growing up in 'the Town', as it was named. Most of this time was put to helping around the pub or in the company of another young man named Tacit. The two frequented the Elderwoods, where Tacit taught Apropos a variety of useful skills. During these years, the most important incident to note would be the day when Tacit tried saving a young female Weaver from being burned at the stake and Apropos, who had copped out at first, wound up saving them both. The Weaver gives her name as 'Sharee', and then leaves for.. many chapters. But she's important later, I promise.

After the incident with the Weaver, Apropos' feelings of resentment towards Tacit (for having everything, effortlessly) begin to grow. He hid these, however, and continued to act as if the two were still the closest of friends. This changed only on the day Apropos' mother was killed by one of a group of 'Journeymen', the Vagabond King Meander's men. Tacit immediately began talking about 'justice', and how the two of them could exact it for Madelyne. This set Apropos off, though, and he wound up sending Tacit away after claiming that he'd only been using the other young man and stating that they weren't friends. Then there was a short time were Apropos got told off by Astel, his mother's work friend. They slept together, made plans to leave, had Madelyne's funeral, and then Astel whacked Apropos upside the head with his mother's urn. She stole all of his money and left him behind.

Upon waking, the only place Apropos had to go was the palace. There was one day a week in which the king heard complaints from townspeople, and he thought to take advantage of it. Once he'd managed to get inside, after standing in line for an entire day, despite the bipolar winter, he's given quite a lot of cash to compensate for his mother's early death but rejects it. Or, rather, it seems like he rejects it after trying to cover a sneeze and accidentally throwing the coins all over the floor. This, combined with a couple of choice replies, causes two of the knights to rush him. Thankfully though, he slips and manages to release the knife in his staff inches from one of the knights groins. The king finds this interesting, if not amusing, and offers to make Apropos a squire. After he passes out for three days, that is.

Apropos is placed as squire to Sir Umbrage, who appears to be only a doddering old man, but is in reality still a very skillful man. It is a year or two after this that Apropos is caught in the bedroom of the Sir Granitz with the man's wife. During the rather one sided confrontation that occurs, Granitz manages to wind up dead on his own sword. Apropos and the knight's wife play it off as a suicide, and he is rewarded with a special mission by the king.

The mission, as actually given to him by the queen, is to accompany the knights going to retrieve their daughter from a covenant (of sorts) and to be a friend to her. Apropos accepts, not having much choice in the matter, and he and Sir Umbrage set out.

The princess is retrieved without much trouble, but Apropos is concerned when he hears that Tacit, now Tacit One-Eye, is supposed to be coming to 'rescue' her. Instead of Tacit, however, the knights are attacked by a group called the Harpers Bizarre (essentially, male Harpies). The entire gang of knights are slain, leaving only Apropos and Princess Entipy alive. Apropos begs for his life, and escapes, leaving the princess behind. While running through the woods, he comes across a small clearing where his former friend Tacit is chilling with a phoenix bird. Insert an epiphany of epic proportions and Apropos beating the hell out of Tacit with his staff, as well as stealing the phoenix away. The phoenix winds up eating the hell out of the nearby Harpers Bizarre, and the princess is saved! All appears to be going better than expected until the bird gets pissed and, after trying to throw its passengers off of its back, takes them away from Isertia and towards the Outer Lawless Regions.

Finally successfully thrown off, and being saved by the thick foliage of some trees, Apropos and Entipy are left to asses their situation. After walking for some time, they end up in an tavern where Apropos realizes just how much deep shit they're in if anyone realizes that Entipy is really the princess she initially claimed to be. 'Po talks his way into getting work and board for the pair, hoping to save up long enough to be able to afford to send communication back to Isteria.

Months pass and, after Apropos beats the hell out of one particular customer groping at Entipy, the tavern's owner informs them of a special job - being temporary help at a party the Warlord Shank would be holding in celebratione his upcoming wedding. Against Apropos better judgment, but at Entipy's insistence, the two take the job. While at the feast, Apropos recognizes Shank's bride to be - Astel, using a fake name and rank. Arranging the situation so as to be able to speak with her privately, Apropos blackmails Astel for as much money as he can carry out. This done, he and Entipy get the hell out of Shank's castle.

After purchasing mounts, and leaving the tavern, they travel a short ways and find the means of communication they'd been saving up for. The commweaver sends their messages, relays the reply, and Apropos and Entipy set off again for the arranged meeting place. It amuses to include that, before leaving the weaver's home, Apropos arranged for a message to be delivered to Shank regarding Astel's identity after their marriage.

While traveling, Po and Entipy come across a herd of unicorns. The princess is bound and determined to ride one but her plans are ruined when the unicorns get pissy and decide to herd the two humans out of their territory. They're almost out of the unicorns' place when Entipy (who has, by now, taken something of a liking to Apropos) grabs his ass. This sets the herd off, and they begin chasing the pair out at a full gallop. Thankfully, there was a huge ass avalanche to help them out. Unfortunately, the same huge avalanche also nearly resulted in their deaths.

Waking up in a warm cave, Apropos sees the last person he would have liked to, then or ever - Tacit, naturally. There's arguments had and a large 'what the hell?' moment on Tacit's end when Entipy awakens and declares that Tacit's truths are all lies, and why is he saying things like that about brave Apropos? Tacit, pissed off as anything, forces his former friend into a fight. If he wins, Apropos must tell Entipy the truth about everything. Just as this is indeed about to happen, Tacit is shot full of arrows. Isteria patrols, coming from the nearby meeting place earlier agreed upon, save Apropos from revealing the truth.

From then, it's only a short ride to the fort where Apropos is hailed as a hero and a bit of an object of awe for the other knights and squires. Waking up, however, once again reveals a bad situation. All of the fort's knights are gone, leaving the king, the jester, the princess, and the squire to deal with the oncoming army of the wandering King Meander.

Racking their brains for some way to escape, the group is finally left with no other option but to rely on a plan that Apropos devises. It's a risky plan, and a bit crazy, but insane plans are much better than dying. The king dresses up as the jester, the jester as the king, and Entipy locks herself up in the barracks. Meanwhile, Apropos begins to get the hell out of there. Why die, risking his life on a stupid plan that would never work? But, as he's fleeing, Apropos begins having second thoughts. Turning back to try the plan anyway, he is come across by one of Meander's men who recognizes and tries to kill him. Po succeeds in defending himself and kills the man, taking and wearing the man's armor.

Once back out by the main road, Apropos slips himself into Meander's troops and continues with the plan to fool the king into not attacking. Right as everything seems to be going JUST AS PLANNED (excluding, of course, the fact that Meander why just be the man who killed Apropos mother), Sir Coreolis, formally one of Isteria's knights, barges forward and announces Apropos' identity. Royally screwed, Apropos still tries to talk himself out of the situation, which doesn't exactly go well. That's when, right out of nowhere, Sharee, as the weatherweaver aiding Meander's army, steps forward and covers for him to repay the debt from years before. Apropos saved, and Sharee freed from Meander's service, the two part ways again, and Po returns to the fort to give everyone the all-clear.

The group of four are talking when Meander reappears, alone, and proceeds to have a little chat with the group of them. The 'Mad King' explains that the Isterian knights should return shortly and, after a brief storytelling session and chat, leaves the four alive. The knights return a short while later, true to word, and everyone heads the hell back to their own country.

Returned to Isteria, there's a huge celebration for the princess' homecoming and to celebrate Apropos returning her alive. There, he's knighted, and is also announced as the person Entipy will marry. This comes as a huge shock to poor Apropos who later has it out with the princess in an argument. They banter, they make up (sort of), and then go at it like rabbits. But, for the third time now, waking up doesn't go Apropos' way. He notices a birthmark on Entipy that is very similar to his own, and all the pieces of the puzzle seem to be filling themselves in. There's a screaming fit, a king at the door, and an appointment that day Apropos is commanded to attend.

The appointment, as it turns out, is actually to conduct a speedy wedding. Apropos argues against this and starts to lose his cool. A few choice words from his mouth and all of his suspicions about the princess real father, and his own father, are confirmed. Just as he's about to put the truth out in the open, Apropos changes his mind. For refusing the king's generosity, he's put in the dungeons.

Not long after being thrown in, Apropos is visited by his father who speaks with him and, when they've both said what they've wanted to say, helps him to escape.

Outside, and with a few things given to him by his father, Apropos comes across Entipy again. They hold a brief conversation and she, disappointed in him, returns to the castle alone. Apropos is then free to wander about as he will, and does so, leaving the castle behind. As he walks, he comes across Sharee once again, and the two decide to travel together - as well as to split up which days of the week which one of them will be the hero.

They travel together for a time, but Apropos meets an untimely death along the way. When he wakes up, POOF- Template City.
