I swear to God, time flies by so fast that I can't believe I'm back here at work. I've had quite a busy (or not) weekend which calls for some major post-event ranting (muahahahaha!).
Friday
I was actually absent from work because I had to go to school to renew the books I borrowed for my brother's thesis, since I can't very well go there the next day because of ROD Con reasons.
It turned out that the library doesn't allow book renewals until the deadline itself. Ladifuckingda! The world conspired against me that day. So I had no choice but to go there the following day.
I also saw one of my classmates in the CMC library where I got more agitated because I'm currently slacking off with my thesis proposal. I heard two of our classmates were able to successfully defend their proposals, thus adding more pressure to the rest of us who haven't hauled our lazy asses to work.
Saturday
ROD Con day! I had to go back to the library to renew the goddamned books and flew to Intercon Hotel for the event. Upon arriving at the venue, another great conspiracy happened.
I immediately went to the Secretariat to get my kit since I registered online. Apparently, my name wasn't in the fucking list, not to mention that the peepz at the Secretariat seemed to be stuck in lala land as they were looking at me as if I grew a second nose.
Hello! If I knew something as disastrous as this was bound to happen, I wouldn't have registered online in the first place. I wouldn't have braved the sea of people in Ayala just to get to Powerbooks to buy the ticket in advance. The weird thing is, the Secretariat emailed me that they got my email and the details of my registration. So why in the living hell was my name not included in the list? It's understandable that their inboxes might be filled with tons of correspondence, but to have emailed me a confirmation clearly indicates that everything was supposed to be ok. Unless they have a ghost or hacker accessing their mail...
Again, another case of the Secretariat peepz not knowing how to answer queries. I was asking about how to sign up for the photo contest and the mechanics on how to vote and they were (again) clueless on how the whole thing works. Nevertheless, I signed my name on the paper, gave them the photos and hoped to God there was some way of labeling the photos for voters to indicate their choices properly. Eventually, it turned out that they were scrapping the votation thing and just resorted to having one judge go through all the entries. Nice.
But to give credit to the organizers, never did I have so much fun. Hopefully there'd be another ROD Con next year. Let's make this a yearly event!
And now for the great parts:
BOOKS!!! Heaps of beautiful books! Add the wonderful aroma of brewed coffee and I'm in heaven. Seriously, I bought a few books in one go and I never imagined myself to have this grand book buying spree. Well, it's a feeble attempt compared to
_ligaya_'s book hoarding (XD) impulse, but then again, I'm happy with my purchases.
I was able to attend one function, the lecture of the UP Folklorists. It was pretty cool actually. Blame it on the post-Mythology Class hype in my system that I was absorbing the whole thing like sponge on a wet basin. I genuinely wanted to learn more. Too bad I didn't take up this elective last academic summer at Peyups.
I also met new friends while browsing books! Imagine that. And the weird part is that we share the same OC attitude when it comes to taking care of our precious babies (i.e., no creases on the spine & cover, carefully covered books, etc.).
So this is what it feels like when Belle and Yomiko encounter piles and piles of these lovely things! :3
Sunday
I just stayed at home to "supposedly" write my thesis. But because I couldn't resist reading one of the books I bought, I actually spent the whole Saturday night and half of Sunday reading the whole thing. Then I slept for a bit and slacked off. Again.
Well, I was able to write a substantial part in my Related Lit, but shit, it's still not what I'd call a productive output.
Oh, and I played a bit of O2 Jam that night as well, which is the reason why I'm sleepy as hell today.
Damn temptations. >:)
