The start of a new age!
And that is the rebirth of my almost every day daily blog!
I realized while at dinner tonight(thats the story and main subject of this post), that I have been a horrible person. Seriously depriving many of my friends of the goings on in my life. And I just cannot live with that any longer. I am living in NY, this is probably the best and greatest time I've had in my life, but there are so many people out there who I love and care about who aren't here to enjoy it with me. And I can't stand thinking that you have no clue what is happening with me. I barely have time to talk to people from home online, I only really keep up with people through live journal or their facebook/myspace posts and they with mine. But up till now I have no facebook notes really(nor do I think I will start that at this point, one step at a time.) My myspace posts tend to be months apart and my LJ posts are sporadic at best. But not anymore! A new dawn is here! *tahdah*(i think i spelled that sound wrong :-/)
Anyways down to buisness. I'm at film school and loving it. The new profile pic is of me operating a panivision 35mm camera for my classes 35 mm workshop, thats the same kind of camera that most feature films are shot on and I was the camera operator(for one scene and Director of Photography for all the scenes in my section). It was a lot of fun, the camera is one of the new loves of my life! But too much has happened for me to back track over all the equipment and my past NY adventures. Just know that I am very into lighting and camera work now and though I fully plan on becoming a very successful director very quickly I'm starting to put together a cinematography reel as a back up.

So on to todays adventures. I got to school at around 9:20 because I had directing actors and I had to act in that class today. We were practicing auditions but no one had planned for actors to be there so all heads turned to me since I'm the only past actor in the class. I've been acting a lot for my class lately, last week an actor bailed on us at 35mm so instead of grabbing another actor from the school I ended up playing a bum, but what a bum I was(see my pics ;-)) Well I got to school at 9:20 and I was one of the first ones there. I hung out and got bored and ended up sitting in a chair watching all the timezone clocks ... according to the NYFA clocks Mexico City and Tokoyo are onlye 1hr and 55mins apart, I think they might be off by a bit. Then my teacher Paul Warner showed up and he asked me where my actors were and I said they were getting screen tested ... I got a casting director for my thesis and he knows this so we had a laugh at that. And then he asked if i could print out sides so if no one else wanted to practice I could and I did. Then 5 minutes before class was going to start I was still the only one there and it was odd. But by the time class started there were 5 of us and my friend Cecile "auditioned" first. I acted for her but it was tough cause the character i was auditioning for was far from the usual physical or comedic characters I used to play. BUt i made it through and so did the rest of the class. And then we did one of my scenes, my friend fausto really got into auditioning for me which was awesome.
Later that day we had a PW prep with our directing teacher and cinematography teacher. My friend Mike is directing and his script is crazy, I love it. That whole thing culminated in French(thats my nickname for Cecile, she's french) and I "arguing" she was trying to make fun of me doing Jew jokes and I was giving her a hard time of it and refusing to take the insult :-p it was fun! After classes we had a big hackey sack game. My crew and I are really into playing hackey sack, it gives us something to focus on other than work for a change and its a big stress reliever on and off set which is really really important and good, and we're somewhat good at it, at least for novices. We've even gotten teachers and TAs into the game. We're cool with anyone playing, its just for fun after all and we always give each other a hard time.
After that Mike, Fausto, Cecile and I went out to dinner. We walked around SoHo and somehow ended up going to little italy again, even though last time we were there we were screwed over AND it almost happened again, though we went to different restraunts. When we got our check they had added on an 18% gratuity which isn't that bad if we had money and weren't poor film students who all had thesis films to pay for I wouldn't care much, but the check was about 69 dollars without the added on 18% and somehow it jumped to 81 dollars. Now I still wouldn't mind that if the waiter had done anything but take our order, but thats all he did, he didn't even bring us our food another waitress did. They had said on the check that gratuity was added so I figured that it was probably on the menu somewhere so I asked to see a menu. Sure enough at the bottom it said "For parties of 5 or more an 18% gratuity will be added." Ok cool, wait! Me ... Fausto ... Mike ... and Cecile ... ... THATS FOUR. and we're poor. So I called the waiter over asked him about it he got the manager, the manager was very apologetic saying that it was only suggested and trying to cover for their mistake. It was all cool. And we left the guy with a 11 dollar tip all the same. But for some reason it was a great end to an awesome dinner with my friends. We got Cecile a cab to take her home and the Mike Fausto and I took the subway to union square, we started talking about our films then, mainly mine cause somehow we got to talking about voice overs somehow. Mike left us to go back to brooklyn, fausto and i headed up town fighting over cameras and now I am here.
All in all today was a pretty awesome day all around ... I wonder what tomorrow will bring?!
