I had to write a poem for MTL, and ive always wanted to write one about samson and delilah-- so it worked out perfectly :)
sorry im such a delilah creep.
Samson was Israel’s hero
Chosen by God to defend
And it says in The Bible
Though he was caught by his rival
He caused a great empire to end
Samson was known for his combat
And his truly unmatchable strength
But he was famous, of course, for his long hair
Which he grew to a considerable length
Long before Samson was born
An angel was sent to his mother
He warned her to never cut Samson’s hair
Or her son would be weak like any other
For Samson was a chosen son of God
Unlike any common man
But Samson fell in love with a desirable woman
And that’s where his woes began
His beautiful and dark haired Delilah
Whose looks were known throughout the land
Was a greedy and treacherous vixen
And he fell into the trap that she planned
Delilah was found by Samson’s enemies
And offered a great sum of gold
If she could lure in the great hero Samson
And make all of his secrets unfold
Samson was drawn to Delilah
Yes, drawn like a moth to a flame
So Delilah tricked the beloved Samson
And left him in ruin and shame
She begged her lover to tell her
What would make him the weakest of all
So he made up three untruthful weaknesses
That would make the great hero fall
So she bound him with ropes and with string
And as he lay sleeping, tested every weakness he said
Then called upon his enemies to fight him
But found him only stronger instead
All though Samson longed to tell her
The weakness that would make him fall
He knew he could no longer trust her
but love was his greatest weakness of all
For each time Delilah begged him
He wanted so badly to give in
For his love for her was more powerful
Than any love of God or fear of sin
A long time passed for the two lovers
Before Delilah again began to ask
What would bring down mighty Samson
And would help her complete her task
Against his better judgment
And to let his true love show
Samson again trusted Delilah
The great hero let her know
He shared with her his secret
And of what his mother was told
Then finally the deceitful Delilah
Could at last collect her gold
One night as Samson lay sleeping
Quietly on Delilah’s lap
Delilah cut every hair on Samson’s head
He had fallen right into her trap
When he awoke he was surrounded
And without his hair he was completely weak
So his enemies stabbed out his eyes
And cut out his tongue so that he could not speak
His fair Delilah watched from the corner
With her satchel of gold in hand
She had weakened God’s mighty warrior
Used love’s power just as she planned
Yours truely,
-Delilah
someday we'll know why samson loved deli
