Week Name/Date/Time: 'A Moment's Peace' / Monday, October 3 / 3:00 pm Location: Owlery Open To: Camdyn, then anyone Currently Involving: Ophelia, Camdyn
"Did you just shove an owl off that ledge?" Camdyn asked Ophelia as she entered the Owlery.
She was feeling particular giddy today, even though she'd spent the morning in Study Hall and classes. Her hair was that shade of green she liked to wear, her eyes their natural colour, and the trademark Slytherin smirk was plastered on her face.
She grabbed the letter to her parents that was sticking out from her robes and scanned the owlery for any sign of a capable bird.
"Feeling up to sharing then?" Camdyn asked as she noticed the candy sticking out of Ophelia's mouth.
"Ah, no Cammie dear. That would be the sunlight, see. Does things to your eyes," Ophelia retorted, opening up her eyes wide to show her. Didn't do to have the younger years going about thinking you lobbed things of ledges. Well... anyway.
She went back to eyeing a tough looking brown one. Didn't think he'd go down with one shot. Ha! Retrieving her family seal from among the owl droppings, Ophelia wiped it off grandly and began to take aim.
Until Camdyn asked for a sweet, after which she most kindly presented her with several. She had enough licorice wands for the day anyhow. About to go back to hurling things at the blasted birds, Ophelia paused to think. She looked at the 2nd year, quite easily choosing a bird, and rethought her course of action.
"Oi, Cammie? Think you could get one down for me, hm?" she waved her hand vaguely at the owlery. "Only, they don't seem to have taken to me. Imagin."
That was one thing Camdyn really enjoyed about the other Slytherins. They told not just lies, but amusing lies. Sure, they did a few things she was opposed to (often secretly), but that didn't mean they weren't worthy of friendship. Camdyn rather liked Ophelia, especially when she was up to something rotten.
As Ophelia loaded her up with sweets, Camdyn beamed and nodded in thanks, quickly taking a bite of her own licorice wand. Not her favourite, but sugar nonetheless.
"You'd think they'd be interested in the food at least," Camdyn responded and noticed a nice looking barn owl in the corner. She whistled to it and clapped her hands excitedly as it flew to her.
She loved animals. Couldn't figure out why she'd not bought her own owl before coming back to school.
"Try and be nice to this one for a few minutes. It'll do what you need it to if you don't go shoving it off ledges."
Blasted birds. Probably had diseases. Ophelia made a slight face at them before turning back to the younger girl. Taking out another licorice wand, she began twirling it between her fingers.
"Well they'll have none of mine. They can eat their nasty rats and things," she retorted, biting down on the end of the candy. She wrinkled her nose at the owl Camdyn was holding for a few minutes, before deciding to approach it. It made a low agitated sound.
"Shoving if off ledges. Really Cammie, what you think up," Ophelia teased and gave the bird a brief pat on the head. She took out her letter and quickly tied it to the owl's leg. The thing suddenly began twitching spastically.
"Er, I think you've got a faulty one. Gone and broke on us." Nodding sagely, she took another bite off her licorice wand and stared at the animal.
Camdyn stared at Ophelia as if to say 'who are you kidding?', but broke her gaze as the barn owl began twitching.
"Owls don't break, Ophelia. They... well, they usually fly off. Did you make a face at it?" Camdyn asked her, crossing her arms over her chest.
Honestly! Birds at Hogwarts were highly intelligent. They wouldn't be pleased to hear what Ophelia thought of them. That was probably half the problem, though she would never say so to an older student.
Camdyn stroked it's feathers a few times and then whispered for it to get a move on, which it did. Sending a letter seemed simple. Funny how Ophelia was having so much trouble with it.
"What have you been up to, anyhow? I haven't seen you nearly as much as I'd like."
Waving sweetly at the owl as it departed, Ophelia turned briefly back to Camdyn. She made a face in reply to her accusation, and shoved the rest of her licorice wand in her mouth.
She rummaged through her pockets for anything else, but, alas! All gone. Taking out her family seal she began tossing it lightly up in the air.
"Up to? Oh... the usual beginning of the year things. A horde or two of professors decided they wanted my company after class. Detention, you know. Lovely." She put a finger to her chin and gazed up at some unseeable point, looking thoughtful.
"Hexes, there were hexes..." she trailed off and then added in excitement, "And me and Melia, we found a whole room of jam."
Camdyn's eyes followed Ophelia's see as it traveled up and down through the air. Detention sounded awful, but she didn't question Ophelia about how she hand landed herself there. And... wait a second. A room full of JAM?
"And entire room of jam!? Well is it still there? Of course not, you probably raided it," Camdyn said and shook her head, letting it fall back to blonde as she did so.
Ophelia loved her jam, Camdyn knew as much. She really did wonder if that room was still there. It was a curious sort of thing to find in the middle of a castle.
"What do you think it was doing there? Surely the house elves don't need to store jam in a separate room from other things!"
"Well, maybe you could find it again. Do you remember where you were when you found it? It seems to me there are floors with nothing, maybe it was one of those," Camdyn said, though she was talking more to herself than to Ophelia.
She wanted to see this room full of jam, even if she wasn't prepared to steal from it. A room full of jam was just too suspicious to be ignored.
"I haven't done anything worth writing home about. Father won't be pleased," Camdyn muttered as she watched her own owl fly off with a message attached.
"I've no idea. Was just wandering." Ophelia huffed and picked up the seal. She grimaced and rubbed it off on her robes, then brushed her robes off with her hand. "Emilia was there too," she added, almost as an after thought.
She had almost forgotten about it, actually. She'd had enough jam for weeks now. Though, it would come in handy, she supposed. If only for something to do. Bah, she'd never remember.
Clean forgetting about the room as Camdyn mentioned not having done anything, Ophelia beamed. "Well! We'll just have to get you something to tell your dear Papa. You've probably been far too good for your own... um. Good."
Too good for her own good? Probably. So far she had attended every class and hardly said a word to anyone. She needed to do something, even if it were incredibly pointless.
"I suppose you're right. Mum would tell me to just study for my classes, but father... well, he knows I miss South Africa. He'd encourage me to get out and do something," Camdyn said and ran her hand along the stone.
The owls seemed a bit restless. Maybe Ophelia did have an adverse effect on them. She quickly flashed her eyes different colours... blue, green, purple, brown... and then sighed.
"I thought about pulling a prank, but then I couldn't decide on anything," Camdyn added with a frown. She wasn't good with decision making. A little difficult for a girl of such ambition.
"Well dearie, pranking's difficult you know. Those Lions go about with their dungbombs and joke shops and think they're oh so amazing but-" Ophelia halted suddenly. She seemed to be receiving the beginnings of... what was it? Yes. An idea.
Blinking several times, her lips curled into a wicked grin. Sticking her chin up into the air, she hoisted herself up on a ledge and crossed her ankles.
"You knooow, I do happen to have a few things." Reaching into the depths of her robes, she pulled out an array of red envelopes. Fanning them out, it was easy to see that there were at least 2 dozen.
"We are in an owlery." She brought the envelopes up to her face, and lightly tapped them to her chin. Finally something to use the rest of them all for.
She had gotten Ophelia started on a rant about Gryffindors. It seemed that loads of Slytherins felt the same way. Camdyn couldn't deny she had house pride, but she didn't take it as seriously as the others did. In fact, sometimes she secretly wished she'd been placed in another. Not that she wanted to lose her friends, or gain them as enemies, but because every once in awhile she longed for peace. The Slytherin Common Room was hardly peaceful.
"What are those? Why are they red?" Camdyn asked, completely forgetting her previous thoughts.
They were envelopes, so they were appropriate for an owlery as Ophelia had stated. But what were they? Were they going to send out love letters?
"WHAT ARE THEY?" Ophelia gasped, feigning immense shock. Where had this girl been? "Ohhh, Cammie, Cammie, Cammie. These, dear, are howlers."
Jumping of the ledge, she made her way over to the younger girl. Tapping the letters a few more times to her chin, she suddenly grinned and began fanning Camdyn with them. She rounded about so as to stand by the girl's side, and stuck the letters out in front of her face.
"You see, when you send these letters to people, they don't just read them." Ophelia paused for suspense. "Instead, the letters HOWL the contents out."
Stopping for a few moments to let the understanding to sink in, she continued, "You can send them to annnnybody, with a school owl. No one'd know, just make your voice sound funny."
She thwapped the howlers in Camdyn's direction, seeing if she'd reach out for them.
Howlers? Well, they didn't sound pleasant. That was intruiging enough for Camdyn. She smiled and let a purple streak form in her hair as Ophelia jumped off the ledge and headed toward her.
"They shout at you? That's brilliant! Now that I think about it, I might remember a boy getting one at the Hufflepuff table in first year, but it was so loud in the Great Hall I wasn't sure what I was hearing," Camdyn said and grabbed an envelope from Ophelia's hand.
She definitely wanted to send one, but to whom? She wasn't even sure what to yell.
"Er, what should I do?" she asked after a moment or two. She didn't want Ophelia to think her a fool, but she didn't want to do a poor job either.
"You send them," Ophelia teased and idly tugged at the girl's newly formed purple streak. She spun around as a newly arrived owl flutter overhead, and scrambled after him, swapping her fan of owlers at him all the while.
"To anyone really. Annnyone," she replied, huffing back from her unsuccessful chase. She closed one eye and widened the other so as to stare intensely at the younger girl. Blinking, she returned her eyes to their normal size and went on. "I've got dozens after all. Isn't there anyone you don't particularly like? Someone who is just itching for a howler from 'his dear awld mum tellin' 'im off'?"
Ophelia nodded rapidly, an enormous grin on her face. Oh the yelling! Oh the fun!

Oh but the poor jam. Three pots she'd got out of it, and couldn't find the room again. She'd have to ask Emilia sometime. It was awfully lovely jam.
"I don't know. Sitting I s'pose. Collecting dust." Ophelia pouted and kicked her seal absentmindedly. "And I don't know where it's gooone."
