Week Name/Date/Time: 'Back to School' / Saturday, September 10th, 2005 / 8 am Location: Library Open To: Juhi Saraf, and Anyone else! Currently Involving: Sebastian Rivera, Juhi Saraf, Jaci Mannix
Juhi couldn't decide whether she was in a good mood or not. Up too early for Saturday? Bad. Up taking care of things so she could spend the afternoon and evening flying and socializing? Good and bad. Extra work for herbology? Yuck!
She half sleep walked over to the Magical Roots and Herbs section, and found the three texts she needed quickly. As she stood blinking, trying to decide what exactly to do next, she heard the soft rustling of someone turning the page of a book. Peeking her head around the corner, she saw Sebastian.
Normally Juhi tried to judge Sebastian's mood before approaching him. She liked to know in advance whether he'd be able to take a bit of teasing or not. Not many people humoured Seb, and besides, for whatever reason he was one of the first people at Hogwarts she'd felt comfortable talking to. Today there was no hesitation.
"Sebastian", she said, coming up and flopping down on the floor beside him. "What are you DOING, mate?" She then (rather pointedly) stacked her books neatly and alphabetically on the floor next to her.
Sebastian practically jumped at the interruption. Annoyance began to merge before he turned his head and saw Juhi. Well, anyone else who'd get up at 8 to go to the library... well, he couldn't very well be annoyed by that. At least it was Juhi and not some Hufflepuff first year knocking things over and staring ceaselessly at the seasoned 6th year.
"Reading, actually. Fancy that." Sebastian grinned genuinely, and raised an eyebrow as Juhi stacked her books. He gave her a look that was meant to be withering, but came out as trying-hard-not-to-be-amused.
"Herbology, mm?" He said instead, looking the books over. After a moments pause he added "Roberts, Eileen comes before Rodney, Herbert, you know."
".....Not before 9 am on Saturday in a stack of Herbology books, it doesn't. Roberts and Rodney can go where I put them and be happy to be included at all." Juhi pretended to pout and leaned over to have her turn looking at Sebastian's book.
"You brought your own book to the library?" Uh-oh. Maybe coming over here wasn't such a good idea. She gave him a somewhat sheepish smile. "Just couldn't bear the thought of bumping into anyone in the common room, eh?"
"Bump into someone? In the common room? Before 9 am on a Saturday? Not bloody likely." Sebastian gave her a wry smile and told himself not to bother about Ms. Roberts and Mr. Rodney.
"The library is just more conducive to reading. Being naturally chock full of it. Besides, I've never been one for the whole sleeping-in shtick." Sebastian added, and momentarily wondered why he'd included that last piece of information. Perhaps he should learn to sleep more. The insomnia could be getting to him after all.
Juhi grinned. "I guess you would have bumped into ME either way. Yep, unavoidable to innocent reading young men, that's what I am." She saw his eyes flick toward her books and casually fixed them while she talked. Bloody Roberts and Rodney. She was happy to avoid them for a bit longer.
"I'm not one for sleeping in either. Normally I read in bed and wait for everyone else to be ready for breakfast, though", her tone slightly teasing. She hesitated for a moment. "Do you sleep well here?"
Sebastian tried to hide a grin as Juhi rearranged the books. Though, it did stop his brain nagging him to not think about it. Which was a ridiculous series of thought processes, in all honesty.
He floundered slightly at Juhi's direct question, but replied casually with "As well as I do at home." He paused a moment, thinking perhaps he should say something else. Instead he closed his book and aligned it on the seat next to him, hoping it would come off as a I'm-not-trying-to-get-rid-of-you gesture.
As soon as she'd asked the question Juhi regretted it a bit. Sebastian answered though. Mostly.
She relaxed as he set his book down. "Hmmm. I sleep better at home, still. Weird isn't it? I mean, at this point it's not like I've slept there MORE." Suddenly she woke up a little. "What on Earth am I talking about?", she thought. Trying not to blush, she looked at Sebastian and added "Cause I'm an only child, I guess. Still don't like sharing a room." Greeeat.
Trying hard not to feel absolutely delighted that someone else was stumbling over their words, Sebastian grinned.
"An only child? You are truly blessed. Don't tell me you've never had 3 siblings grab you by the scalp before and whine?" He paused to scratch said scalp. "It is an experiance in any case, though not exactly one that goes hand-in-hand with a good nights sleep."
"Yep, an only child. Never had any siblings do anything at all!" Juhi figured there was supposed to be regret in her voice at these words but, well, she liked her little family unit. It suited all three of them. "Apparently though, it means I can't sleep well away from my mummy and daddy." She hids her hands in her face briefly.
Then something occured to her and she looked at Sebastian thoughtfully. "You're a good brother though, yeah?" What she actually wanted to ask was something along the lines of why he didn't sleep better than all that at school.
Sebastian smiled as she hid her face in what he could only suppose was embarassment, feigned or otherwise. But the second question unsettled him a little bit, and he began to wonder what she was really after. He really shouldn't let on about all his little... oddities.
"Oh, the best. In that none of them have gone missing yet." He joked. "But really, my family's so extended and far too full at most times it's easy to get away from it. As odd as that sounds. So it's not so bad as all that."
Juhi wondered sometimes what was going on she and Sebastian talked. He didn't want to be....judged?, or something, and she didn't want to make him uncomfortable, so things still got a bit awkward sometimes. She was getting better at being blunt, but he seemed to be tensing up.
She grinned at his joke, though. "THREE youngers ones and still all accounted for! Brilliant!" She flung her arms wide open, and then remembered they were in the library and returned her voice to a normal volume. "We appear to have the opposite problem, then. I think my extended family is having...complications, lately." Juhi frowned.
Subject change, need a subject change...
"OH! Okay. There's a running gag, sort of, with my mum and dad and me. I have a new pair of lucky quidditch socks every year - don't worry, I wash them after every game - and each of them send the craziest pair of socks they can find. Then I have to decide which ones to use and they tease each other mercilessly and take the blame for me not being a superstar." She rolled her eyes, straightened out her legs, and pulled up her robes a few inches. "I'm wearing one of each to get a feel for them when I fly later. But I need a second expert opinion. What d'you think?" She tilted her head to the side and waited. She loved throwing silly stuff at Sebastian.
Sebastian raised his eyebrows at the obviously tenuous subject change. Of course... who was he to talk?
He laughed outright at her two pairs of socks, well because, really. Who would have suspected, under the prim school robes?
"Oh, the green ones with the bright orange bludgers, definitley. Though I do rather fancy the bunnies." He paused, grinning. "Er, best not to repeat that to anyone, eh?"
Juhi made a face at him. "I hate bludgers!" she said, rather dramatically, and was mostly successful at fighting the giggles threatening to escape. She didn't particularly enjoy giggling in front of anyone (well, except Letty). It was just so....goofy. "I'll put you down as a vote for the bunnies, shall I? I have a feeling those are from Da anyway, so you wouldn't be the sole male speaking for them." She temporarily ignored his request for discretion, not because she intended to tell, but just to see what he would do.
She pulled her knees up and wrapped her arms around them. "How did you not know I was an only child, anyway? Have we really been talking about books and classes for four years?"
"Alright... Your father has... eclectic tastes? Although, aesthetically speaking, and from, a purely intellectual stand-point, mind you, pink and cream go together far better than green and orange. I'm only stating a fact." Sebastian replied with the air of a pedantic.
As Juhi moved into a more relaxed position he grinned, feeling more comfortable himself. "I probably did know. But with my selective memory, it probably got lost in a sea of dates for Goblin wars."
Jaci moved quietly into the library, being careful not to drop any of the several books she carried all the way from the tower. Hmm. The library seemed to be mostly empty, as it typically would be this time of day on the weekend, so she was free to choose a table without worrying about being shoo'd away by older students.
After shifting the stack of books again, she moved as stealthily as possible to a table near the back of the room and set the books on the table. One by one, she moved them from the stack and spread them out in an order that would make sense only to her. "Potions, defense, More potions," she spoke quietly to herself while getting organized. "Augh. Transfiguration." That book was pushed a little further away from her than the others, and she sat down and began her homework.
Juhi waved her hand dismissively. "My father doesn't care about bunnies, he just wants his socks to get picked. Knows I hate bludgers, see?" She looked at him suspiciously. "I think you could make an arguement that all things aesthic are subjective, boyo."
Since apparently it was on her mind, she stuck somewhat within the same topic. She figured if Sebastian didn't like the jumping around he was welcome to suggest something else, after all. "Do your parents write you a lot while you're here?"
Suddently she sat up straight and listened intently. Turning to Sebastian she whispered (in a rather loud, not very secretive sort of way), "Did you hear something just then?" and got on all fours, intending to crawl to the end of the shelf and peek around. She gave him a look which she hoped said "Coming with?"
