"I'm jealous!" Julian exclaimed happily. Both Avery's and Lauren's drinks sounded splendid, while he only tasted apples. He reminded himself that he did love apples, but it would be nice to maybe try some of the strawberry-mango Soren said he had, or anything that involved chocolate like Avery, and since he did love apple juice, Lauren's would've been great. But no, only apple juice.

Thinking it over, Julian came to the conclusion it didn't feel much different to be eighteen than seventeen. The more he thought, he noticed that on your birthday, you're only one day older than the day before when you were a year younger. Unless you lost a lot of weight or suddenly became horribly depressed or annoyingly happy, he reckoned it didn't feel any different.

As he looked around, he noticed that he was one of the eldest people in the group. In a year, he would be in Gabe's position: last year of school, a war staring you in the face, and a choice of careers ready to be made. Julian didn't care for the serious feeling that fell over him, so he shrugged it off.

"Oh yes. Why don't you sing Lauren? I'd accompany you, not that that would make it better. Actually, it might trot right across your act and ruin it." He said, scratching his chin and taking another candy. He watched as Jackie opened her frog, trying his best to conceal his affinity for them. "Mind if I have a look?" he said, leaning slightly out of his chair in Jackie's direction.

((ack. I love how horrible I've been with this thread. Sorry about that))

"Thanks," he responded, practically beaming at everyone. His gaze wandered, taking in the sights of the small party. Frankly, it was impressive and far more than he expected. Truthfully, he felt almost guilty because it must not have been easy to organize. "Wow, thanks for throwing all of this together," he added, glancing between Avery and Letty. "And for coming," he finished, looking genuinely pleased.

He eyed the drink that Julian was passing out with interest. Jumer? He couldn't say he had heard of that before. "What's Jumer?" he asked the younger boy curiously. "I'll give it a try." Everyone else seemed to be enjoying it enough, anyway.

He turned to Lauren upon hearing her question and he gave a hopeless shrug. "Well, I can't say I feel any different," he confessed, smiling sheepishly. "I think I'm agreeing with Avery on this one." Well, her dad anyway. His father had given him a similar lecture growing up so it would have been a lie to say he disagreed.

He couldn't help but laugh at Jackie's comment. "Yeah, the music is rather dreadful," he answered though he didn't sound like he minded. It would have taken a lot to bother him at the moment. Granted, it took a lot to bother him at any given moment but that was besides the point.

Lauren bit her lip through a smile as Gabe answered her question. She was yet only 16, but she couldn't wait for the day when she was 'of age' and legally an adult. Although 17 was the legal age in England, in her mind 18 was when she would legally be of age, since she was technically a citizen of America -- something of which her mother never failed to let her forget. That's probably why she was so curious to know how it felt.

She was caught off guard when Jackie suggested she sing... and then Julian agreed with her? Now, normally she would be thrilled to sing, but during a birthday party... well, it wasn't exactly the type of setting she was used to.

"Jack, you're crazy," She laughed, tucking a few stray pieces of hair behind her ear, "You know I don't sing without my guitar..." It was a nice excuse, and she was glad for the reason to not sing. "But you are right, this music? Definitely outdated."

Her eyes widened at Julian's remark. "You can sing? That's wonderful! I'm pretty mediocre myself, but at least, I'm not tone-deaf. Speaking of which..." she lowered her voice and glanced around the group "are we going to sing 'Happy Birthday' to Gabe?"

Jackie resumed her grin, and winked again at Lauren. "We can transfig you a substitute guitar if you need one... or is your guitar your lucky guitar?"

She leaned towards Julian to meet him half way, sticking out the Wizard Card. "Sure! It's Helga Hufflepuff! Do you have her already?"

Julian had never heard Lauren sing, and hadn't actually expected her to bust out a tune. Smiling, he patted her shoulder. "I'm sure you're great, even if you don't want to sing here." He wasn't usually good at reading people, but it seemed too obvious this time. "No!" He shook his head at Jack. "I was just kidding. When I sing it sounds like someone strangling a chicken. Then again my audience is a four year old and her friends." He laughed, ruffling his hair. It seemed to be turning into a nervous habit, either rubbing the back of his neck or making a bigger mess of his hair.

He was delighted to hear that Gabe wanted to try his drink. Filling an empty goblet, he held it out to Gabe. "It's a potion I made." He would have to throw more parties. That way, he'd have a room full of people willing to try his drink - if only out of guilt.

Julian took the card, looking at almost sadly, "Thanks." He blinked a few times, then handed the card back to Jack. "I've got all house founders." He turned pink. He found it rather embarrassing to admit he not only nearly lived by the lake, but was an avid wizard card collector. "Have you got her already?"

"She doesn't have to sing if she doesn't want to you," Gabe informed Jack, guessing that that was the reason Lauren was coming up with excuses. He had to admit, he was rather curious. He couldn't recall ever hearing her sing before.

He recieved the goblet from Julian with a nod in thanks, chuckling at his comment. "You can't be worse than me," he insisted. "I don't think there are words to describe how horrible me 'singing' sounds." He flashed a good natured grin before taking a sip of the drink.

"This is good," he added a moment later, sounding rather surprised. He hadn't expected a homemade drink to taste so good. He couldn't quite place the favor- it was an odd mix of things- but either way, he rather liked it. "You should start a business," he teased.

Julian shook his head. He wasn't sure if he and Gabe was as far as it went, but Hufflepuff's boys didn't seem to have great voices. "We ought to team up and make a recording to torture prisoners with," Julian said, chuckling. Quickly, though, he added "I can't imagine you're that bad." It seemed that planting, swimming, and brewing potions drained his talent meter and mostly everything else he tried to was greeted by failure. He hardly minded though, what with all the friends he had - he didn't need to know how to sing.

"Yeah?" When Gabe mentioned a business, Julian's eyes widened and he looked at Gabe expectantly; he didn't know Gabe wasn't being serious. "I've actually been thinking about making a line of drinks that change flavor from person to person."

Jackie mentioned singing happy birthday. He noticed Luci still had yet to return and frowned.. "I suppose we will when we've got the loot." He tried his best to say it quietly enough that Gabe wouldn't hear him.

Jackie nodded at Gabe. No one here would push Lauren to sing, she thought glancing around the group. They were all too... nice to do that, and of the lot, she probably was the only adventurous one (besides Lauren, naturally). It was too bad, though. Lauren had a lovely voice, and if she started singing, she might have encouraged a small round of 'Happy Birthday' to Gabe. Then, again, Gabe wouldn't have to be subjected to their rendition of the song.

"Nope. I don't have all the founders yet. So, I get to add Helga to my collection." She smiled again at Julian. When he lowered his voice and whispered at her, she nodded and returned a whisper. "Should I go look for him?"
