Honestly, it had been way too long since she had paid a visit to the kitchens. The reason for her late night excursion was, of course, hunger. She had slept in past breakfast that morning, not having any classes that day and seeing no reason to get up.
So lunch had been her breakfast, and dinner her lunch. Now she needed dinner.
She had thought twice about cutting it so close to curfew, but then immediately became ashamed of herself for caring. The thought that she might be outgrowing trouble making and rule breaking was a sad one, indeed.
Now here she was, about half way down the corridor leading to the painting of the bowl of fruit. The castle was always a bit creepy at night, the shadows casting strange shapes on the floors and walls. It didn't help that the flickering torch light occasionally made the shadows dance, her mind immediately interpreting the movement she saw from the corner of her eye as being alive. She momentarily thought of the movie Alien before quickly pushing it out of her mind.
If she had been anything less then a Gryffindor she might have actually been scared. Good thing she had a lion's bravery, huh? She clenched her jaw and wrapped her arms around her midsection, wishing she had thought to get dressed before gallivanting across the school. Her threadbare tank top and old flannel boxers did little to ward off the November cold. She quickened her pace, eager to reach the warmth and friendliness of the kitchens.
