Brandon glanced around the near-empty common room. OWLs and NEWTs were coming up, so most of the normal crowd was probably off in the library studying. It gave the room a sort of hollowed out feeling, which was unsettling.
He'd decided against bringing his guitar down, because he figured there'd be at least one person trying to study in the common room instead of the library, and he didn't want to bother them. He may not have understood the obsession with studying (he hadn't studied this much the previous year, and he'd passed--barely), but he respected it, and he didn't want to disturb anyone.
He took his wand out and tried to do a conjuring spell, just to see if he could, but when he'd tried the incantation three time and the glass of water he'd been trying to create from thin air still hadn't appeared, he gave it up as a lost cause and sighed, putting his wand back into his pocket.
He slumped back against the chair he was sitting in, and wished for a familiar face.
