In your own words, write a 6 inch essay on the process of solar evolution. Be sure to start with the Proton-Proton Chain or CNO cycle and end with a black dwarf. Don't forget to explain It can only evolve into a black dwarf, and nothing else.

Roll Call:
William Sparrow
Nicholette DuBois
Arisu Ryusaki
Soren Sigurd
Cyrus Weller
Shihoko Kazue
Julian O'Brien
Alexis Winchester

For the one time that Soren had actually come to class ontime and as the first person there, the class topic just had to be essay writing. His lucky star sure wasn't shining tonight.

Sighing, he choose a seat to the furthest back corner of the room (and perhaps one of the darkest ones too) and sat himself down, tossing his bag onto his desk. He had skipped last class but not this class, luckily, he recalled some rough details on the topic so unless there had been a lesson last week, he was still good.

Good enough to take a nap first at least. He crossed his arms on his desk and laid his head down.

Mona was wandering through the room, answering questions if their were any and offering helpful advice where it was needed. She came across Mr. Sigurd, sprawled on his desk, asleep. She frowned slightly not sure whether to wake him up or not. On one hand, it was scientific fact that growing bodies needed sleep. On the other hand, this was an important essay due at the end of class, and Mr. Sigurd had missed the previous class.

Deciding that he could sleep after class, she gently shook his shoulder. "Mr. Sigurd, please be aware that your assignment is due at the end of class. If you're not feeling well, you have my permission to see Madam Pomfrey. Otherwise, it would be wise to get started."

A few moments later, another sixth year scrambled into the Astronomy Tower, looking as though he'd just pulled himself from a sound slumber, himself. "Ah, sorry I'm late!" he lamented, giving Professor McGill a deeply apologetic look (not to be confused with his 'puppy eyes' look, which was similar but not quite the same) and plopping himself down into an empty chair.

Near Soren, for good measure. He hadn't seemed to realize that that's who he was seated near until he actually turned and caught sight of the blond, grinning sheepishly.

"What'd I miss?"

Soren had been shooken away by the professor and blinked tiredly into the class. "Sorry professor. I didn't quite mean to sleep in your class but you do realise that at midnight is possibly the worst time to assign an essay~ You know how human brains are." He gave the woman his best I-love-your-class-but-I'm-dead-tired (which was probably true since he was tired) look and tried another plea, "Couldn't we give you our essays tomorrow when we're wide awake and do something like define terms right now instead?"

He was rightfully surprised when he saw Will drop into class as well. This was probably the first time this year that they had bumped into each other during Astronomy. He grinned in greeting, "Why hello, mate. You haven't missed much unless my snoring was something you wanted to see."

Mona thought for a moment. Mr. Sigurd did have a point, and besides, he did look absolutely exhausted.

"Alright. The essay will be due tomorrow, at the end of the day. I trust that will be enough time? As for now, you may read ahead in your textbook, or examine the stars, provided you remembered to bring your telescope. Just, do try to stay awake." Mona said with a smile. "I find a small nap before class does the trick."

She went back to the chalkboard and rewrote the assignment so the other sixth years would know about the change.

Will's gaze followed the teacher on her way back to the chalkboard, a grin spreading across his face, and he had to restrain himself from clapping Soren on the back in a celebratory manner. "Heh! Nicely done...ah, but I see how you managed it," he ammended, peering inquisitively at the Gryffindor.

"You definately look a bit out of sorts. Busy week?" he inquired, arching an eyebrow.

"Thank you, professor~" Yup. Soren knew he liked Mona as a professor for some reason, she was a lot more forgiving and agreeable to her cute and adorable (ahem) students. He leaned back and grinned over at Will, giving the over a 'v' for victory. "Well, now I see how looking half dead can certainly help you get more time to do your essays and ultimately advance in your academic career." Soren joked but rubbed his eyes all the same.

He lowered his voice to a whisper, "Well, I have been skipping classes so I can't say I've been too busy in that sort of way. Too many dates, perhaps?" Truthfully he had been trying to match his schedules with others to talk to them about the D.A. ressurection. Who knew tracking people down would be that hard when they all went to school together. Maybe it was just the 'revealing of the truth' part that made the whole endeavor so tiring.

Bran peered into the Astronomy class from just outside of the door, waiting for the professor to have her back turned. The instant that she turned and moved away he slipped into the class and did his best to quietly take the seat behind Soren. As luck would have it, bad luck that is, the chair moved as he sat, causing a rather loud SCREEEEECH. Immediately a red blush crept across Bran's face and into his ears, which he tried to cover by ducking down behind his friend's back while pretending to look for his quill.

Once things had settled down around him, Bran rewarded Soren's on-time arrival to the evening class with a forceful thump on the back. "Oy, Soren, you couldn't've checked the tower to see if I was there, first?" he complained in a voice well above a whisper, but there was a hint of amusement in his voice. "Not that I really minded," he added, this time in a softer tone of voice.

He glanced up at the board and moved to open his book and at least act as though he were ready to do the work.

And Ari was late, as usual. She made no effort to hide it as she trudged into the empty classroom; she professor was bound to be used to her constant lateness by now. She looked rather surprised to see only three other people there; she had expected everyone else to be there already. With a shrug, she moved over to the three boys and collapsed into an empty seat.

"So what did I miss?" she asked, sounding far more cheerful than she felt. She was simply exhausted and the past week's events were still on her mind. She was really beginning to worry about her friends. She pushed these thoughts aside, trying to think of something more cheerful inside. She glanced up at the board with half interest, quickly scanning the assignment.

And right after Ari, Niki appeared in the doorway. Late, late. Always late. She followed Ari's procedure, and slumped into the empty seat next to her. Next, blue eyes were cast toward the board. A six inch essay wouldn't be bad, especially if she wrote rather large. "When's the assignment due?"

She slowly and tediously unpacked her things, the book, parchment, quill, ink, and lastly, telescope.

Another two seemed to have leaked in, in the meanwhile...one, Will recognized by appearance, but didn't know by name, and therefore he neglected to greet the boy with anything other than a curt nod. Arisu, however, was a different manner...he grinned at her, while the unfamiliar boy wasn't looking, before settling more securely into his seat.

"Not a whole lot, just a change in plans on the assignment, thanks to Sigurd here," he answered Arisu, before lifting his arms over his head and stretching a bit. Meh! Part of him still wanted to sleep...

And then in came a Slytherin! He wiggled his fingers at Niki, before hearing her inquiry and answering. "Tomorrow...thank the gods. We only have to read up on the terms and such, right now."

Oh lord, sorry for being so behind on this thread, guys! >.< My bad.))

Lexi had been in the corner of the room, covered in most of the shadows, reading a book. She had gotten so lost in it that she was unaware of the other students chatting away. She was brought out of her trance as Bran sat down with a loud 'screech'. Jumping slightly, she realized that class had indeed started, and she quickly closed the book and shoved it into her bag.

Glancing around and rushing to get her parchment and quill out, she was surprised to actually see Soren there. Her stomach dropped slightly at the thoughts she'd been having about his disappearance lately. Was he avoiding her? Was he angry at her? Did she say something to offend him? She didn't even know if they were in some kind of fight. They had a tradition of walking to classes together ever since second year -- and it just seemed to have ceased. Lexi was worried about him, and wanted to make things better between them.

Bran glanced around the room, eyed the board at the front, and then leaned forward so that he could peer over Soren's shoulder to see what he had done before drifing off again. Ah, right. Nothing. Bran shook his head and flopped back down into his seat where he began searching through the text for information on solar evolution.

He scanned the first paragraph and managed to scribble down a few notes before losing his concentration. It had always been difficult to focus in the evening classes, but it seemed even more difficult than normal. In order to distract himself enough to stay alert, he let his attention wander, glancing around the room to see what his fellow classmates were doing to pass the time.

Soren had managed to stay somewhat awake for the next few people that came in. He mumbled an appropriate apology to Bran for forgetting him in the tower, though he did counter that statement with an, “but I didn’t come straight from the tower!” line.

He had grinned at Ari when she entered but averted his eyes to Niki’s presence; that one still annoyed him from their previous week’s Ancient Runes class. He settled back to flip through his Astronomy textbook until Lexi had walked in. At the girl’s appearance he looked up at her and offered her an apologetic look, “Hey, Lexi. It’s been a few days, I’m sorry I haven’t been showing up to class with you...” He hoped the girl wasn’t mad at him.

Niki waved her fingers at Will, then averted Soren's gaze as well. Apparently, they weren't the best of friends anymore, pity. There was a lot of senseless chatter going on, and boredly, Niki rested her hand in her palm. This would be quite a good time for a nap.
