"OY!!"

Bastian had been in the process of walking down the third corridor of his night patrol when he heard the bellow. He recognized it, of course, but the fact that Veronica was standing there bellowing at nine o'clock at night was something that didn't quite sink into his brain.

Why was she bellowing at him?

Or perhaps she wasn't yelling at him at all. Despite that thought, he turned around and headed back around the corner, raising an eyebrow and crossing his arms as she came into view. "Did you just oy me? What am I, some kind of animal?"

His tone was utterly amused as he walked toward her.

Ronnie leaned against the wall, knowing Sebastian well enough to know that he'd backtrack and find the source of the 'OY' -- if he didn't recognize the voice and know the source already.

Arms crossed over her chest while one foot rose to prop against the wall, and yep! Sure enough, the sound of footsteps drew closer. With a smirk, Ronnie looked to him, then feigned a look of slight horror.

"I'm sorry, did I say 'Oy Sebastian'?" she asked, tone utterly innocent. "No, I don't believe I did. But since you answered like some kind of animal, I'll let that question go."

With a wink, she pushed off the wall and met him halfway.

"Oh!"

Bastian stopped walking in mid-stride. She was feeling playful, then, it would appear! He wasn't one to argue with one of those moods, so he spun around and started heading back the way he came, ignoring the fact that she'd begun walking toward him.

"Well, if you didn't want me with that 'oy', I'll just go back to work." He shrugged and started to turn the corner once more, waiting for her to say something or do something to make him stop again.

He knew she would.

He had a grin on his face that she couldn't see now, due to the fact that he was no longer facing her, but he was quite sure that she'd be able to hear the smile in his tone of voice. That was one of the perks of knowing each other better. "Don't mind me! Go back to your 'oy'ing."

"Good!" Ronnie cried, shooing him on off with her hand as he headed back down the corridor. "Wasn't 'oy'ing for you anyways, ye big arrogant brute!!"

She grinned openly, not caring that he could turn around at any moment and see her. "Maybe I was just calling for that other Auror bloke? The one I had a run-in with just last week, ooooh what was his name? Handsome devil, to be sure. Gabriel something-or-another. Hmm. OY!!!"

She lifted her hands over her head and stretched as she shouted, before lowering her hands and scratching at her head idly. "Oooooy handsome Auror!"

Okay, so maybe that one actually was left purposefully vague -- or purposefully for Sebastian, depending on who was looking at the situation.

It was a good thing that Bastian wasn't exactly the jealous type. Honestly, the mention of some Gabriel who was handsome did make him stop his walking, but he didn't do anything more than turn back around and raise an eyebrow.

A grin came to his face once more as she yelled for a handsome Auror.

"Ya know," he said slowly, walking in a slow stride toward her with each syllable that he said. "You really shouldn't yell like that so late at night. You'll start annoying people, and then I'll have to protect you from the big handsome Aurors who decide they want to kill you for disturbing their beauty sleep."

His tone was deadly serious as though he meant every word, though his facial expression claimed otherwise. As he reached her, he added, "And I can take them, but I don't know if I want to if you weren't 'oy'ing me..."

Muahahahahaaaa. He stopped. Oooh, and even turned back around to keep playing with her. Oh, this was so much more fun than him getting his knickers in a twist and leaving! She grinned wide, listening with a teasing stare as he came closer and spoke about having to protect her.

She shuffled her feet innocently, putting her hands behind her back as she adopted a look of bashfulness.

"Well, I was 'oy'ing you," she confessed softly, fluttering her lashes. "But you had to go and be a big git about it."

The words were spoken just as softly and sweetly as they could be, despite the small jab at him. She finally laughed, then leaned close and looked around suspiciously.

"But you're right. I do have quite a big mouth. Might want to be on your guard for Ronnie Sullivan Attack Assassins."

"What can I say?"

Bastian shrugged lightly, still grinning as she fluttered her lashes and tried to look innocent about whatever she was being innocent about. See, he didn't believe for a second that she was actually innocent. "I'm just a big git. You've known that for... how many years now?"

He leaned closer to listen to her suspicious-sounding words, letting out a low laugh at the thought of attack assassins coming to get her. For all he knew, she would actually be someone who would end up with a hit out on her. It was probably just a little bit sad, but rather true.

Of course, it was also true that he'd protect her, but that was beside the point. "'Course, that big mouth comes in handy for... other things." Cough.

Ronnie was grinning wide as he agreed that he was, in fact, a git. It was really good for him that he admit these sorts of things aloud, could never really overcome them if you stay in denail all the time! Pity that some people--

HEY!

Her mouth dropped open at his insinuation, and she greeted his words with a sound thwap on his arm. She'd aimed for his head at first, but well. She was short. The effort would have taken away from the effect. Sigh.

"That, Mr. Myles, is entirely inappropriate. Thirty points from Gryffindor."

Ooops... that didn't work when one was actually teasing, did it? Oh. Hmm. She'd have to make that up somewhere along the way, just in case.

She'd hit him!

Bastian's jaw dropped in mock shock and he looked rather insulted by both the thwap and the way that she'd taken points from his former House. Was that even possible? Would the Gryffindor hourglass have lost thirty points in their playfulness?

That would kind of suck, wouldn't it.

"Well, Professor Sullivan," he replied idly, crossing his arms instead of doing what he'd normally have done (which was to hit her back), "You left yourself wide open for that one... and you can't deny that you like it." Having said that, he grinned mischeviously and shrugged.

After all!

She'd always been a flirt! Veronica Sullivan was one with the innuendos, that was for sure.

"Can't deny that I like it?" she repeated, looking affronted as she drew a hand up to her chest dramatically. "That, my darling Sebastian, is just what's so utterly inappropriate about the whole thing!"

She grinned, then happily looped her arm through his, regardless of the fact that it had not been offered.

"Ahhh, lovely evening don't you think?" she sighed as if she'd not just 'oy'ed at him, called him an animal, toyed with his affections, thwapped him, and took thirty points from his former house. An absolutely normal occurrence, that was all!

"What're you doing about? Patrolling, no doubt?"

Veronica Sullivan was an oddball, that was for sure.

She was now talking to him as though she'd not just beat him to a pulp (figuratively speaking, of course), and looping her arm through his own. Not that he minded that in the least, but it was kind of funny to have her speaking as though she'd just run into him.

"Well, I was patrolling, before a certain Professor bellowed across the halls and distracted me from my work..."

He grinned as he started walking down the hall again, tugging her along with him. He was almost done, which was a good thing -- he didn't want to be patrolling when she was obviously in some kind of a playing mood! That was no fun...

But then again...

That could be a lot of fun, couldn't it?

"So. Whaddya do when you walk around the halls like this? Look generally imposing? Intimidate dust bunnies? Sounds like a very dangerous job, love -- OH NO LOOK OUT--"

She ducked, then let out a dramatic gasp of relief. "No, no. My mistake. Only a cobweb."

She poked her wand up in the corner, twisting it and pulling the silky substance down before wrinkling her nose and wiping it along the hem of her robes. "But really, isn't it a waste to be wandering about up here? No one's around! Who could possibly be up to no good 'round here?"

She looked up at him, slightly curious but mostly attempting to make him shirk his duties. Bah, who needed one Auror when the castle was full of 'em!?

Of course, she should have been more concerned since there had been trouble in the castle, but it was easier to not think about that fact.

Bastian felt like he was going to die laughing when she talked about intimidating the dust bunnies and other such things. He knew that it wasn't a very thrilling job, but it put him in the castle that had always been a home to him -- plus it put him closer to her, which made him completely and totally happy about the position! So what if there was nothing more interesting than a cobweb? That was a job well done -- when things were going wrong, that was a bad sign.

"Yes, because we all know how intimidating I am. I just walk by those dust bunnies and they cower in fear."

He turned down the last corridor of his shift, adding slowly, "No, it's not a waste of time. Well, they tell us it's not, anyway. I don't know, I guess it's good if we suspect someone broke in or something..."

Not that they'd had any issues after the whole screwup with the kidnapping -- thank Merlin. He didn't know what he'd have done if they'd had more problems. They'd likely have rotated out the Aurors that they had at Hogwarts currently.

"Very," Ronnie replied, nodding very matter-of-factly as she pursed her lips and furrowed her brow. "They quiver in their giant rabbit-feet-sized boots."

Ahh, and he was getting all serious about what she'd said. She felt like thwapping him again, making him see that she was really only teasing and trying to get him to pay attention to herrrr.

Because everyone knew that Ronnie Sullivan was a whiny, attention-seeking, needy bint.

Finally giving a soft sigh, she delegated herself to having to make do with the boring patrolling business, letting her head flop down against his arm as they walked. "Wake me when we're done, eh?"

"You don't have to follow, you know."

With a grin, he slipped away from her, looking for all the world like he was about to wander off without her. He headed down the hall, not glancing back at her as he walked. After all, she didn't have to have come oy'ing him! He was almost done, for Merlin's sake!

Of course, he was only kidding. He wouldn't actually go wandering off without her -- that was just rude, and would likely earn him a hexing of some kind, he was quite positive.

Ronnie tried to grab at him as he slipped away, but he was gone! Gooone, gone, gone!

What a git.

"Well if you don't want me to!" she replied, giving him an exasperated sigh as she stomped off in the other direction. He might've not actually gone wandering off without her, but would she go wandering off without him?

Absolutely! Straight back to her room, to sulk until he arrived with his adorable smile and puppy dog eyes. It was all a game, but it was a fun game nonetheless.

"Don't come knocking on my door!" she warned over her shoulder. "I'm going to find that other Auror and I might be BUSY!"
