Daphne had finished dinner and was now wandering the corridors aimlessly. She was in no mood for her housemates' company just now, preferring to have a bit of time alone. She often felt hemmed in around the other Slytherins in their common room. Sometimes it almost seemed she could feel their battling wills and ambitions flooding through the room and it was often tiresome. Much as she loved the game of it, she needed to keep her mind clear and that wasn't likely to happen when she was trying to match wits with her housemates.

She turned a corner and spied a figure coming towards her. Her hand went to her waist immediately, ready to take hold of wand or dagger, not even she knew. However as the figure came closer, she relaxed. It was only that Dorian Grace fellow; he was hardly a threat. Well, to Daphne, at least. Her lips curved up in a devious sort of smile. In fact, he was a face she welcomed seeing lingering about the halls. Perhaps she could do a bit to gain his good side a bit more. Nothing like making nice with those she knew to be loyal to the Dark Lord, as she was nearing the time when she could at last take the mark herself. She put on her best smile, though even that still had a slightly disturbing edge to it, "Good evening. Rounds, is it?"

Despite the darkness, Dorian recognized the girl’s face. Daphne Kali-something or other, if he remembered correctly. She was a Slytherin, so he supposed she was worth a bit of time.

Grace gave a short nod in greeting. “Yes,” he answered, voice sounding tired. He wasn’t really, he’d just rather be sitting in an armchair with a nice book and glass of wine. Instead, he was romping around the castle with teenagers.

Daphne continued to smile at him, "Shame, that. Of course the castle is perfectly safe, isn't it?" her eyes flashed, "No one would think to hurt any students, surely," she smirked slightly, amused at the duplicity of it all, "You'd think they could use an auror's time more effectively than wandering the corridors looking for students out of bed," she clucked her tongue sadly, "I'm sure you've much better things to do with skills and talents like yours."

Yes, wandering the corridors would be in her favor tonight. It never hurt to make a bit of polite conversation with those who could further her true goals in life. She had to be careful, though. Wouldn't want the wrong words to get back to her mother and father. They'd be rather put out if they knew her plans to take the mark, after all. Still, they couldn't fault her for being polite to Father's... friends.

Grace shot the girl wide smirk. “No danger whatsoever,” he said. His light blue eyes sparkled, acknowledging the irony of the statement. He snorted.” Of course there are much better ways to waste my time. It seems, however, that a few intimate couples or a handful of pranksters are much more important than the actual safety of the school.”

Skills and talents? Well, he was becoming rather fond of his current position. Most of the students he’d conversed with were showering with compliments and admiration. He certainly couldn’t complain. While he was at the Ministry, Dorian had quite a bit of fun tormenting his co-workers, the ones who hated him. Now, despite his pleasure, he had no idea how to respond to compliments.

“Thank you,” he replied politely, a rather stiff tone hidden in his voice. It was best just to reply generically, right? Yes. “What skills and talents would those be, specifically?”

"I'm glad to hear we're in such capable hands, surely. Wouldn't want another... tragedy. Seems a pity they would waste your time when we've all these professors about. I should think it their job to keep the pranksters in check. You've much more important things," Daphne gave a small smirk, keeping her face trained to a pleasant and elegant expression.

Daphne's eyes flashed and her grin brightened a bit at his question, "Well, of course it takes quite a lot of both to become an auror, doesn't it?" she accentuated the word, intending it as a stand-in, perhaps, for another title. However, it wouldn't do to use some words out in a corridor like this where anyone could hear it. It was a game they all played now; it was simply a matter of how well you understood the double entendre of another's move.

She tilted her head slightly, "I've heard it takes a certain level of intellect and proper training, not to mention high standards and correct morals, yes? I'm sure you have all of those, plus many others. Father has told me that many people are quite impressed with you, including himself," she smiled again, meeting his eyes with her own.

“It does take quite a bit,” Dorian replied smoothly. “Aurors hold one of the most difficult jobs. It isn’t easy to hunt Death Eaters day in and day out. Despite their… horrid nature, they’re smart.” He shot her a smirk.

“Intellect, training, and high standards- yes. High morals? Well, that’s simply a stereotype. I’d never stoop so low as to have high morals.”

In fact, that was really the only thing Dorian was missing. Nothing was too unethical or horrible for him to do, it came with the territory. He was happy to kill and torture, to spy and deceive, and set aside anything resembling a moral. They were completely useless, he decided a long time ago. When the world was this way, morals were simply a hindrance.

((OOC: I apologize for taking so long. I've been having a bit of a block on writing Daphne the last few days, but I think I've found her again. Didn't mean to leave you hanging for so long.))

Daphne flashed him one of her well-trained smiles, full of elegant pureblood pride and elitism, though there was a tinge of respect. He was one of her father's comrades, after all. It twisted a bit at his comment on Death Eaters, but mostly stayed in place, effortlessly.

She let out a light laugh at the reply on morals, however, "I see. Well, I beg your pardon, in that case," another devious and somewhat twisted smile, "I shan't make the mistake again. I thank you for the correction, certainly."

Not that Daphne even knew what morals were, at least not in any traditional sense of the word. She much preferred to torment others for her own pleasure. And if they just happened to be beneath her and their pain would please those above her and raise her own status? All the better, to Daphne's mind.

He smiled. “My pleasure,” Dorian replied, shoving his hands into his pockets.

Despite his blood not being up to par, Grace handled himself in a way that many would mistake for a Pureblood. He did, after all, emulate his superiors once he got out of school, and then began socializing with the Purebloods from the Ministry. His blood was his greatest weakness, and intended to keep it a well-hidden secret.

“Are you interested in joining?” Dorian asked, as though commenting on the weather. Of course, he meant becoming a Death Eater, but assumed she knew that.

((OOC: Oh, its not problem! I've been crazy busy, so it was really no inconvenience :) ))
