Astrid had just happened to be in the corridor, arms crossed, almost glaring down at Sean. She tried on her most intimidating voice on him next. "I hope you have an excuse for missing dinner," she said, as gruffly as possible, which turned out, wasn't that gruffly at all.

With a laugh, she kneeled down and helped him. "I brought you some things from dinner, sadly, it isn't mutton." She offered him a huge smile as she stacked together a couple of rolls of parchment. "And where are you going in such a hurry?"

Poor boy nearly jumped out of his skin. The intimidating voice clearly worked. "Astrid!" he cried, looking up. "Give a bloke a heart attack, honestly." He was grinning, though, because his slightly sour mood was incredibly not sour very suddenly. Sean was not much for staying in sour moods for more than ten seconds.

"An' I was doing homework, o'course," he said cheerfully, apparently losing all ill thoughts about Defence Against the Dark Arts; lovely subject, really! He smiled gratefully as she bent to help him, since he was somehow managing to make things messier.

"Did ye, then?" he asked with a grin. "Well, thanks, I'm rather starved, had only Chocolate Frogs an' all, which interestingly do make a grand dinner, 'cept they certainly aren't very filling, are they?" Not to mention how they jumped about in one's stomach. "I s'pose I'll have to make do without the mutton," he added sadly, taking the (incredibly random) comment in stride. If Astrid wanted to talk mutton, they were talking mutton ( ... )

"Sean!" Astrid cried back at him, a playful smile on her face. "Y'know, that's exactly what I was going for, mate. Giving you a heart attack. More of a little scare, if you ask me." She nodded at his grin. "That's much better." Reaching forward, she poked one of his cheeks. "None of this frowning bit, will you? It's unbecoming of a young man such as yourself." Astrid giggled, which ended up in a giggling and snorting fit. Ah, so the perks of being a girl ( ... )

A girl? Well, if giggling was a girly thing, then Sean Brightwell was a girl, because when she poked his cheek, he giggled as well. It was a manly giggle, he would insist, but a giggle nonetheless. "How true," he agreed with a grin. "Sort of painful, too, all that frowning," he said, rubbing his jaw. "I'll not do it ever again."

Sean, who had never read Shakespeare (and likely would not know what a Shakespeare was if someone were to ask him), did not understand the joke at all, but seeing other people laugh was usually enough to make him laugh, and this was no exception. He also imagined that if he asked what a Montague was, it would probably be one of those cases where his friends looked at him, amazed that he was really that dumb. He could just tell. The gist of the message seemed to be that they both hated homework, so he laughed!

"Ah, ye've got a point," he agreed, shaking his head in amusement. "Those prefects, they guard the mutton with their life, it seems. But non-chocolate dinner for me?" He grinned. "Ye're a lifesaver, ye ( ... )
