Perhaps this was to be a lunch in peace. What a concept! Hargreaves got badgered, (literally, in the case of the Hufflepuffs), with all the blasted students who had fallen for his "charms." Such situations made ( Read more... )

Rae was heading down the table after stopping to catch some gossip from a fellow gossiper. Mentally she clocked down exactly what was there was and made a note to send an owl to Sascha, even if it was only for the sole purpose of getting their duty towards the school paper done ( ... )

Ah, Rae Burton. He had known her and the Burton family for ages, it seemed. Plus, someone he could be geniune with, which was rare. He took his feet down with a "Saving the spot for you, Rae," and put his fork down. Hargreaves smiled his crooked little smirk and said, "Who do you mean? I hope that's not a veiled criticism of me." Hargreaves in fact had to act cordial and tried never to scowl in front of the other students, which was something Rae was doing so plainly. "Smile. You look much prettier when you do."

"Besides, I'm usually the saint that has to talk to them." He winked. "What a job."

Rae gave him a pointed look as she reached for some tea, "Never for you. You would never go around as uncivilized as those people." She waved a hand in the direction of the Gryffindor and sighed. "Really, you would think we could have one peaceful day without them ruining it. And I will smile," she said, looking up and flashing a smile at him and pushed those other people away from her mind. It would be horrible for them to ruin such a lovely lunch. "You should watch out or you'll start to sound just like your mother."

Rae laughed while holding her cup of tea, thinking of the countless times that he had been caught doing such things. But mostly it was for her benefit so she really couldn't hold it against him. "And that is why we have you. So that they can feel a little better before I make them face reality."

Hargreaves gave his breathy, soundless laugh and said, "My mother's a lovely woman. I'm proud to be brought up to her ideals." He nodded at her smiling now, and looked around, thinking to himself before he spoke. "I believe that makes me a 'Mama's Boy.' I don't mind." Well, that he most certainly was. He was never particularly masculine, except on the pitch.

He picked up a scone and broke a piece off, holding it in one hand. "Oy, I am useful after all!" He only wished he could be more useful, and have that same mark above his wrist as his father hid so well under his suits and jackets.

"Anyway, what have you been doing that's kept you so busy? Not the gossip column, is it?"

Hargreaves yawned, looking at the Gryffindor table to try to see which one he didn't know, nodding absently at Rae. "Of course not, they have nothing better to do and were born without manners. And yes, they find a way to make their lives interesting."

He changed the subject. "Well, I hope this Blaze bird isn't a total cow. Because that'll take all the fun out of it."
