To Saffron Mayloski, an A was not Acceptable. Really, it stood for Atrocious. Staring at her paper angrily, she bunched it up and shoved it into her bag, which sat at the foot of her table. ( Read more... )

Homework done. Really done. Boredom, Jory was finding, was a brilliant equaliser; it had an edge over laziness and provided possibly the only real incentive to doing homework. He was actually quite pleased with the theory ( ... )

Jory did have a way of sneaking up on people, though it had never bothered her. Sure, she didn't appreciate the snickering that she received after she screamed, but it seemed that Jory never meant to scare her. And, let's not forget that he is JoryTurning at the sound of his voice (which she recognized instantly), Saffron couldn't help but smile. "Jory," she greeted quietly, looking him over. She shifted around, leaning on the back of the couch. "How are you?" It seemed like it had been a while since the last time since she had seen him, but really it hadn't been that long. Four days? She didn't want to think that she had been avoiding him, but Saffron had feared that he had been a little angry by her barging in on him. Apparently not ( ... )

He relaxed a bit when she smiled, if 'relaxed' was the term at all, as he was almost always relaxed to begin with. But a smile meant that she possibly was all right, and that meant less awkwardness. He was relieved; non-awkward moments were becoming scarcer and scarcer these days. A symptom of seventeen, which he blamed for everything. "Fine," he answered with a shrug. "You?" He scratched his jaw and smiled apologetically, shaking his head; he'd already asked her how she was, hadn't he?

He eyed her a bit as he sat down beside her. Whether or not he believed that she was truly all right was extraneous; she'd said she was, and it wasn't in his nature to pry. Still, he pursed his lips a bit, frowning.

It had been a few days since he'd seen her last, on his birthday. He wasn't sure why, although he assumed it must have been Saffron being busy and not him, since he was never busy. Ah, well. Might as well ask. "What've you been up to?"

Saffron's face scrunched up suspiciously. "Are you ever anything else except 'fine?'" which was of course rhetorical. That was what she loved about Jory, he was so laid back. Especially considering how all over the place she was, after all. She couldn't help but laugh when he asked how she was again. "I do that all the time, because you're used of being asking first, you know ( ... )

He had no recollection of being anything other than 'fine' in recent memory; still, he gave it some serious thought, as he did most things, and said, "I'll get back to you on that one," a small smile hanging around the corners of his lips. He wasn't sure how he'd deal with anything other than neutrality, so fine was... fine. Didn't mess with his equilibrium too much.

He nodded slowly. "I heard," he said and then raised his eyebrows. "Are you going?" He wasn't entirely sure who was going at all. Jory certainly wasn't interested in spending an entire day at the Ministry, which would've been just as useful as sleeping but would not have provided the same rested feeling. In his opinion, anyway.

"Oh, History," he said with a grin, as it was one of his favourite subjects. Saffron seemed eager to get off the topic, though, so he let it pass -- especially since she was bringing up flying now, which he had to admit he liked a bit more than History. Possibly lots more. It had been a little over a week since he had gone flying with Jackie. "Um ( ... )

Laughing, Saffron wiped her still wet eyes, looking at him with a sudden graveness. "I will be waiting." This response only made her laugh more, until she realized that she was probably acting foolish. "Nothing's wrong with fine. That's why it's fine ( ... )
