Niamh had claimed an entire bench to herself in the courtyard almost an hour ago when she had finished lunch. She now sat with her sketchpad splayed open on her knees and a determined look on her face. She was so intent on the book in front of her that she didn't even notice the smallest end of her tongue was sticking out as she concentrated.
She hadn't done any drawings in a while and she knew she had to practice if she ever hoped to get better, so she'd come out here with a purpose. There was nowhere else at the castle that inspired her quite like the courtyard. There were always people milling about and the trees were so large and lovely. But it was also rather peaceful and calm out here, no matter what was happening elsewhere on the castle grounds.
Her subject today was just one of those lovely, large trees. She thought she would start with something simple that she knew she could do fairly well on. Trees were one of the few things she had managed to learn to draw properly, and she was in need of cheering up. So drawing trees, it was! But she was interrupted when she heard a voice. She glanced up as she realised someone was heading in her direction.
