Avis wrapped her scarf tighter around her neck, passing time by puffing steam out of her mouth in the icy air, pretending she was a dragon. Perhaps she seemed too eager to meet up with Jory, by waiting for so long in such a clear area and swiveling her head around, looking every which way. At any case, she began to look at her feet and quietly murmur the lyrics to a muggle song. "Just a castaway, an island lost at sea, another lonely day, no one here but meeee. . ."
Someone peered at her in passing and she quickly stopped, turning red.
It was wicked cold out, and it kept drizzling. 'Snow already!' she thought to herself, and rubbed her mittened-hands together. Kids walked into the joke shop, buying prank items for Halloween on Monday. 'Nice place to take a boy, eh Abernathy? A place where they sell dung bombs.' She felt so self concious standing there in her overcoat, waiting and leaning on the window.
'He's not gonna show. I got here too early. I look too pushy,' she told herself.
She wondered how Blaze was going to buy all that candy with Lexi in tow. There was no way Lexi still didn't know about it. Oh well. it woudl be a very good party anyway.
'Well of course it's going to be! Jory's going!' she smiled to herself and looked back at the street. A couple was passing, clinging to eachother. She frowned and thought, 'How can they walk stuck to eachother?!' Couples, psh. She never imagined any boy wanting to do that with her.
'Urgh! Stop being such a girl, Avis!' she told herself and pulled her hat farther down on her head.
What was keeping Jory? She knew she had to be patient, or else she would seem pushy and lame, but inside she was getting tired standing all alone in the cold dreary weather. 'Story of my life,' she told herself.
'Stay positive, Abernathy. Stay confident and happy. This is a good thing today. You're not sleeping in today, you're out with the other students. A functioning member of society. Buying a joke snake.'
