Studying. Was one Sebastian's mind more than usually lately. Or at least, the desperate need to study. Which brought him too the library once again, the place where one went out to study, and studying did happen. He'd had such effective studying hours in these expansive four walls. And he would once again!
...Would, that is, if he didn't have to make conversation with someone else. Of course, he wasn't going to be rude. Erm, perhaps she wanted to study as well? Just needed to do so around people... that happened. Right?
"Oh, ah, sure. No problem," he gave the girl a small smile and turned back to his book for a moment, whilst the air filled with semi-awkward silence.
"And um, my name's Sebastian. Rivera," he added as a way of introduction, hoping it would make things less... noticably silent.
Jackie took the seat across from him, giving him a small smile as thanks. She nodded. "I'm Jack. Or Jackie, if you prefer." Paused, and then added with an afterthought, "Zhang." Since he gave his full name, it would only be polite to include hers.
She dug out her History and Herbology books from her bag and set them in front of her, trying to suppress a groan at the first subject. Not her favorite, but she had to work on it. It was easier when her friend tutored her in it - and he actually made it sound more interesting than it was - but she tried to shake that thought aside. They were avoiding each other for a reason, the reason being her and her stupid feelings.
She looked hesitantly at Sebastian, unsure if she should start a conversation as he looked pretty busy with his own studies. She figured she might as well say something, so she wouldn't be just a random person to him. They probably had friends in common. "I think I've seen you around... Soren, maybe?" She smiled.
Nodding and smiling again as she introduced herself, Sebastian quickly went back to his book. As though being aware of your table partner's name would immediantly clear the air of awkward. Well, it did. In a way.
Of course, he must have been subconciously expecting her to start a conversation. People didn't have a need to sit by strangers to study and then not talk Sebastian, really. He stared back up at Jackie and blinked.
"Er, Soren? Yes, I suppose. On occasion?" he gave a shrug to indicate he did happen to know the boy, but didn't follow his every move. "You're a Gryffindor then?" Right, that made sense. Ask a question with an easy answer. Sebastian lay his book down with a hint of regret and rubbed the back of his neck while waiting.
If Jackie were more like her happy self and not in this self-appointed rut, she might have tried to seek Sebastian out just to talk and get to know the other. Right now though, she was just relieved he didn't boot her from the table.
"That's right." She nodded, a bit surprised by the question, but she shrugged. She noticed his book, and thought she'd ask. "What subject are you studying?"
