Rylie had been pacing in her dormitory for at least thirty minutes. She and Sebastian had decided they would meet at 5 o'clock. Rylie had been ready since 2 that afternoon. Not that she had dressed up... or done anything to her hair. Well, so what if she had? Her mother was a hair dresser and her sister was a fashion designer! Just because Rylie preferred books didn't mean she didn't share some of the same genes. And she was a girl! She wasn't really trying to impress him! He already fancied her! But what was the harm in it, really?

Feeling completely ridiculous about the fact she'd been so eager to see him, she'd read a novel until a little after 4, and then the pacing commenced. She had no idea what he planned. If he knew her at all, it wouldn't be a party. They'd made jokes about it, of course, but Rylie was extremely uncomfortable in those types of situations ( ... )

Sebastian, on the other hand, had been researching (yes, researching) recipe books for half the day. And spent the other half obsessively measuring flour and sugar into small bowls and then whisking them with unbelievable precision. He had also managed to completely avoid the kitchens, which had made the whole process of cake-making considerably longer. However, forge on he did! Just in time to find the empty classroom and haul his things off.

He nervously flipped through the book's pages and quickly slid it back into his bag as Rylie entered. She looked... well, different? Nice. Not that she didn't usually look nice but she looked different nice. Sebastian grinned softly at her, then looked back at his cake.

"Er, no actually. I'm afraid nothing, not even the promise of a cake, could compel me to brave the kitchens again. I um, I made it," he grinned hopefully, wondering if she would remember him saying that he never baked, and wishing she wouldn't ( ... )

NO ONE had ever done anything like that for Rylie before. That's not to say no one cared, or no one got her presents, or no one had done anything nice, but... he MADE the cake! He baked her a birthday cake! He'd told her that he never cooked, and she'd teased him about potions being similar, and something about recipe books and yet here he was saying he'd baked something. For HER.

Had time stopped? It certainly seemed like it. She couldn't stop looking back and forth between the cake and Sebby and grinning and... wow. And he hadn't gone to the kitchens? How had he done all of this!

She could imagine it must have taken a fair amount of time, and he was so very careful about everything that... well, there was just no way this cake wasn't perfect.

She took a step forward, stopped and looked at the cake, and then rushed forward. She threw her arms around his neck in a hug, something she'd never actually done before, and laughed.

"I absolutely adore it! I can't believe you'd do that for me!"

She really couldn't, but she had no

Well if it was an occassion for firsts, Sebastian may just have blushed for the first time as Rylie thanked him. He was enormously grateful she couldn't see his face, as he felt remarkably like an 8 year old year. And the feeling wasn't altogether pleasant alone, but the compliment made him bite his tongue to keep from grinning too hard. Not that she could see him, but, well. Modesty forbade etc.

It had never really occured to him not to make a cake. After all, when his family had birthdays, they generally baked cakes. Piles upon piles of them, and honestly, he hadn't known what else to do. Of course, well, he had thought Rylie may like it. And then thought she certainly wouldn't and it had all been very confusing and taken him a good several hours.

He patted her back awkwardly, like he did when a relative hugged him.

"Well, yes. I know how much you like... spice," he replied lamely, attempting to divert the compliment. Pausing, he pulled back to grin nervously into her face, "And Happy Birthday," he added softly, trying very hard ( ... )

Somewhat irritated with himself for letting his ticks show, Sebastian was about to reply with a 'yes, I know, it is ridiculous and I should stop' before reconsidering. Obviously it didn't bother her much, or she would have pointed it out years earlier. Or not said anything at all. People tended to do that... well, he did.

But... it was very... him? Him as in ridiculous, because that is clearly what it was. He'd never spent a considerable amount of time with any one person... perhaps repeat exposure of all Sebastian qualities got to people more than it would normally. He was just about to apologize again, when- ohhhh.

Sebastian's brain clicked into place, although he considered it an odd time for it to do so. Bloody inconveniant.

In any case, he managed to kiss her back. It was a little more clear than last time, which somehow made it even nicer. His hand hung awkwardly by his side, so he brought it up to rest on Rylie's waist... really not helping the newfound clarity of the situation.

It was a very good thing that Sebby did NOT apologize, as clearly Rylie did not want him to. She didn't find him ridiculous in the slightest, though sometimes she found their trouble speaking to each other a bit ridiculous. She enjoyed their weird banter, and their lack of studying, and his sudden ability to make her go weak in the knees. So, there was nothing to apologize for, lip biting included. Unless he really had poisoned her cake, in which case he should be sorry now, because she hopelessly fancied him and dying would not be fair ( ... )

It was funny how much less awkward it was to just kiss Rylie, rather than babble at her when he knew they were going to kiss. It really made no logical sense... though, nothing had made much logical sense lately. And as much as he opposed breaching logic, Sebastian rather enjoyed it.

Of course, it didn't help that Rylie decided to end their... gngh. Snogging. By planting her face in his chest. And what was he supposed to do about that? Not that he was worried about anything hygenic wise. Because, while most people's skin smelt of soap, Sebastian smelt more like a bar of soap that had a faint odour of skin.

Only one thing sprung to his mind, as her head was right there. He reached out a hand and tentatively brushed her hair. It occured to him to be an odd thing to do, so he stopped immediantly and left his hand floating slightly over her hair. Which was... nice. Soft anyway, and... ngh.

"Er... so. Would you rather have the elves then?"

Ohhhh stupid thing to say Seb.

Rylie began to slowly get herself under some control as he brushed her hair. She was a little disappointed that he'd stopped, actually, as it was rather relaxing. She wasn't sure if he'd want to hear that, though. She was always a bit unsure, and somehow she knew it would mostly pass. So, she moved a bit so he could see the soft smile on her face, but within seconds he'd made a comment about the elves. She held back her laughter, biting her lip (which seemed rather ironic), and contemplated how to answer. Was he asking if she wanted the house elves there in the room?

She was giidy, and for that she would normally give a silly answer, but something about the moment was rather serious as well. So, she shook her head slowly from side to side, eyes shining with amusement.

"Ah.... no. Even though I cannot deny that I was ecstatic about... things.... with the house elves there anyway, but I... well, this is much nicer," Rylie answered quietly, moving her hand from behind his neck and resting it on his chest as she pulled back a bit, to ( ... )
