Afternoons were always the best times in the day for Akira, why? Because it meant his classes were finished for the day and he had nothing else to worry over next aside from dinner, which would be in around two hours. Plenty of time to walk, think and perhaps even attempt to fish out one of those Doyarchus from the Lake. He had heard their fangs were at least four inches long; it was something that was just asking to be seen.
He was walking across the bridge and when spotted Cyrus and his scarf. He had always chosen to wear shorter scarves or the ties that his mother sent him rather than the super long ones. “Hello there, mate. I see the window enjoys your company too much to let go.”
Cyrus looked past the tassels on his scarf spotting Akira. He rolled his eyes giving the boy a crooked grin. "Yes, I must have said too many flattering things to it while I was eying the view." He eyed the window again, the view past it didn't seem as enticing as it did a few moments ago.
"Free for the day?" His eyes fell back on Akira. Like most Tuesdays Cyrus lost track of time, not hard to do when you had no classes. He released his damnable scarf, making a mental not to transfigure the tassels off of it later.
"Wow, every part of the castle must be magical then." Akira answered wide-eyed, glancing over the sill himself. He wasn't completely sure if Cyrus was kidding or not, but hey, it was magic. And the one thing Akira had learned over the years he had spent in the school was, the castle moves. Who said it couldn't have feelings as well?
Back to his friend's question, "Yup! Free for the week actually. Well, except for Potions tomorrow, but I tend not to look forward to Potions with Snape."
"Ha, wouldn't surprise me one bit really." He heard the rumours from his brother about a room that wasn't always there, startled him really. What happens if your in there and it goes away? Even now was there someone stuck in there? Yes his brother had successfully gotten him scared to enter any of the unknown rooms during his first year at Hogwarts. Now he knew better, and knew the castle well enough not to go walking into any new doors that just 'appeared'.
"Only ones that can possibly look forward to that is his own house members." Cyrus stuffed his hands in his pockets. "Where were you off to?"
"I've never encoutered anything of that sort though. Except for one incident where the staircase moved and stranded me on some unknown floor with no way off." Akira had wondered if he should have jumped then. The castle being magical would have tried to save him, right? Except he had heard cases wear two girls had died in the school already. Moaning Myrtle and Ozma were prime examples. He didn't want to risk being the first male student to die there either.
"And I'm off to no where in particular. What'll 'bout you? I haven't even seen you around that often, what's been up with your life lately?"
"Getting caught on that sill wasn't magic, that was just pure bad luck." He looked down briefly at the tassels. "Those tassels are going to be gone by the end of the night, that is my task." He gave a firm nod followed by an easy grin.
"Too much is up in my life for my pleasure, give me back my nice quite life from last year. No tangling up with birds anymore." He looked sideways at Akira, had he even told him about Niki. Would surprise him if he hadn't, considering he was the one bloke Cyrus talked to on a more personal level.
"Oooh. I see." Akira nodded, of course he knew that way before from the beginning. Cough, cough. "That's exactly why I use the short but thick scarves. They're warm and not so easily caught up in random things." Maybe it was because he watched too many horror movies and waaaay too many of them included slowly being strangled to death by caught scraves or clothing around the neck.
"Ah.." Akira started to say before giving Cyrus a confused glance. He knew about Niki, yes, the other boy had mentioned he was dating the Slytherin. But why the sudden change in interest? "Did something happen recently between..?"
Cyrus smirked bitterly, not a common look for the Hufflepuff. "She did one of the things I couldn't forgive, and as you know that is quite a task on its own." Akira would be the second to know, the word will spread at some point. He didn't care much, let them find out it was Niki's neck not his.
"She kissed another bloke." He sighed. "So much for the trust I had in her, I left her crying in a courtyard last week. I was right pissed, stated what I felt and left her there in the dark." Serves her right he thought bitterly, and she has been wise enough to leave him be. He may be a Hufflepuff but he had a wicked tongue to those that have freshly wronged him.
Akira's eyes widened in disbelief. "She cheated on you?!" He repeated the thought, still very surprised and showed. He had been friends with Cyrus for a good few years now and the one thing he knew for sure about the guy was how much he care and loyalty he placed on those who were in his inner circle. To have been Cyrus's girlfriend meant that Niki obviously showed SOMETHING worthy.
"I can't believe that. What a horrible thing to do!" He knew Slytherins were not to be trusted. Especially when said Slytherin wanted an underground relationship and keep things all hush-hush. "Gosh, mate. I'm so sorry to hear that." He patted the other boy on the shoulder. "You holding up all right?"
"She cheated for the sake of her little secrets yes, and lost my friendship for it. Well that is what she claimed, but as far as I know there is no need for kissing another boy just to hide a secret." He shrrgged, becoming thankful very thankful for the two crying sessions last week. He was now seeing things clearly and detached if anything.
"Should have known, I mean I know better than to let a bird like that catch me up in something that quickly." He laughed with tired amusement. "Life lesson learned! I am now striving to move on." He gave Akira a dry smile. "How about you? Anything I missed?"
"Her little secrets?" Akira echoed curiously. Now Akira was big on keeping secrets and all but hey, it seemed like Niki was a liar and a terribly untrustworthy person. That, coupled with the fact that she hurt one of his best mates definitely called for some kind of punishment.
"Well, I have to admit. It did move rather quickly, I was still trying to wrap my mind around it. At least it ended pretty quickly, wouldn't want it to happen when you were about to propose to her or anything." He kidded, and then himself? "Hmm, things are going pretty slowly for me. I mean, nothing much has happened to me besides the usual. How boring."
"She didn't have many of them, but she did have a few that she safe guarded with her life. If I have any secret about my life that is so important that I would lie through my teeth, hex me and put me out of my misery." He joked. "Her secrets as much as I can see are not worth her death grip on them, hell Slytherins are mad in mind."
"There were many times where I found myself delicately pushing her back a few paces. So I have known her since first year, doesn't mean that we could rush through the romantic type relationship. As it is known, I like my life slow." He smirked at Akira claim of boring. "Boring? Hell mate willing to switch me?"
"Well, like in the movies, secrets are the downfall to us all. They will always be revealed at some point in time and much woe, angst and drama will ensue!" Akira waved am arm dramatically to amphasize. "But Hogwarts isn't so much drama yet, though I have a feeling stuff will happen soon. Slytherins are always mad. And too filthy rich for their own good."
Even if Akira complained his life was boring, he liked it just fine. "I don;t know, mate. I'm not sure I could handle your sort of excitement, wouldn't want to leave the poor boy in a heart attack, no?"
Cyrus nodded slowly, smiling at his friends arms movements. "I swear every one of them is hiding some blood secret about their family, hell the only ones that are proud are the ones that are perfectly happy to claim that they are inbred about twenty generations. I will take my not 'pure' blood and sleep soundly that I am not inbred."
"No, don't want to do that. Will have to find someone else with a boring life." He looked about him. "My life should back to normal this week."
"It's disturbing really, once you wrap your mind around it. Imagine marrying your first or second cousin? If pug-faced ran in the family then your children would definitely have those qualities as well." Though, according to what he had learnt in science before he came to Hogwarts, other genetic dysfunctions occurred too. Perhaps magic covered it up or they took some potion.
"And same here. I sleep well knowing I'm muggleborn. Though, sometimes not so well when I think there's something under my bed. You really can never tell in this castle." Akira shook his head, remembering once when a house ghost drifted past his curtains in first year. He didn't sleep for a week that time.
"That quickly? She's not going to try clinging onto you or threaten and all that?"
"I try not to think about it, it boggles me really. I am a firm believer in mixing the gene pool, let it spread and such. My dad told me this past summer that the amount of muggleborns was increasing, not fast mind you but it is." The ones he knew were either as strong as the purebloods or in some cases stronger.
"Ah yes watch yourself, the students ghosts get lonely I hear. Don't need them watching you when you sleep or...having a shower." He winked at Akira, oh it would be funny if one of the ghosts actually did that at some point while Cyrus was around to hear the yell.
"That's the funny thing, would have expected at least my sweaters back. She has my two favourites, why would she want them?" Hell he wasn't even getting nasty, forlorn, or any looks from her. A little odd for a girl that seems to like attention.
