Ozma sighed loudly, shoulders sagging. He just gave in and admitted she was right? No fighting back? And he was so unsettled! Normally that would be a triumph, but if he was truly an Auror, the ghost was very disappointed. He should be accustomed to screechy, scary things. Saving the world from dark beasts and even Darker Lords, and all that.

"I s'pose I am right," she said drily, "if you're not even going to put up a fight. Fat lot of good you'll do this school if you can't even ward off a poltergeist like me." She floated around him in a circle, examining him, and caught sight of another person lurking nearby from the corner of her eye. Ooooo, an audience. Better put on a good show then!

"I recognize you," she announced, unimpressed. "You're all grown up. Fancy that. Managed not to lose your head, did you?" she said with an evil grin. Anything she could do to taunt those who actually grew up and went on with their lives while she could not, she would definitely do. She hadn't even managed to graduate before her demise came raining down upon her. Ozma was a very jealous spirit.

"Oy, girly," she called over to the one mucking about down the corridor. "See this chap here? He's been sent here to protect you, but he's scared of ickle old me," she leered in a falsely sweet voice. "How does that make you feel? Safe? Warm and snug up in your little tower while he quails at the sight of a mere ghost?"

Ozma was a mean little bint sometimes. Alright, most of the time. =\

Lexi stayed where she was as the older student reacted to Ozma's rather loud entrance. She caught eyes with him as he spotted her, and she gave a sympathetic smile, her own wheels turning as to what to do.

Oh, crap. She jumped just slightly as Ozma turned her direction towards Lexi. She stayed silent as she spoke about the mystery man, and her eyes flickered to him then back to the ghost. So he's an auror? Her interest was spiked even more, and wasn't faltered at all by Ozma's point that he was scared by a mere spirit. Glancing over to him once more, she read his pleading look and decided to take some action - whether it would do any good or not, she had no idea.

"Sure, warm and snug seems about right." She spoke out, walking closer. Might as well play along. "People can't help but be intimidated by your prescence, you see. You're so famous, Ozma."

Since he'd spent so much time away from the school, Nick had forgotten how much ghosts irritated him. And the fact that this one was taunting him? Not on. His eyes rolled to the back of his head a bit.

Before he had a chance to respond to Ozma, however, the girl had approached. He tossed her a grateful look before nodding. "She's absolutely right," he said. "I'm a bit awed, really, which is why I couldn't respond right away."

Blatant flattery, false or no? SCORE. Ozma settled down a bit, sinking lower to the floor as the other two praised her. That was a refreshing change! A smug grin broke out upon her lips momentarily.

And then it was gone.

"Famous for being dead!" she cried, dismayed. "Just what I need!"

The girl fluttered up and twirled around in a frenzy of disapproval, knocking a nearby portrait of Colonel Higginbottom the Hairy of Regiment 6 off one of its hooks. The Colonel shook one of his poncey gloved hands at Ozma and ducked behind a trench. She razzed him something terrible and peered back down at the two live ones, regarding them sternly.

"Yes, well." A slight huff. "You should be frightened out of your knickers, not just awed. What, am I not scary anymore?" she whined petulantly. Most alarming news! Despite how she resented being a ghost to begin with, she had rather warmed to her role of traumatizing everyone. A twisted form of retribution for her ill-timed demise.

Oh it was working, it was working -- and then it stopped. Bugger.

She cringed slightly as the ghost picked a fight with a nearby portrait. Quickly recovering, Lexi responded. "Well of course you're still frightening, Ozma," She said with a slight scoff, "You're just also so fascinating; I mean, there's hundreds of students and only a few of..." Err, how could she word this right? "spirits. You're really one of a kind."

Lexi now stood a few feet from Nick and she looked over to him before turning back to Ozma

"Famous for being so....spooky," Nick said quickly. "One of the most famous ghosts around, of course! I hear quite a bit about you in my line of work, you know. It's amazing to--er, finally see you again."

He gave a sideways glance to Lexi before speaking again. "So excuse me for being so... enamoured with you! It's not every day you run into someone you hear so much about."

Good Ghosts of Gatsby, these two could lay it on thick! Ozma was pleased, yet again. Frightened of her still, were they? Enamoured with her? A legend in the Auror business, was she?!

"That's more like it," she grinned, apparently forgetting to be scary altogether, she was so satisfied. She descended upon them, meeting them at eye-level. "You two are very wise. Right gems, you are. Hah! I am Ozma the Omnipresent! Yessss!"

Lexi nodded to Nick's comment, agreeing with him and hoping against hope that Ozma wouldn't turn and start attacking them.

She soon let out a breath of relief and smiled to Nick as Ozma visibly calmed and moved closer to them with a smile. She truly felt bad for the girl and wasn't completely lying. Lexi was always intrigued by spirits who stayed behind instead of crossing over. She would love to find out more but was, quite honestly, scared to talk alone with the ghost. She tended to be rather... unpredictable.

Not able to hold back a wider smile, Lexi looked to Ozma as she spoke of herself with pride. See, she wasn't all that scary after all. "Of course! We're just being honest, Ozma."

Now how to get her and the auror away from here? "Well, your appointment with the Headmaster is in just a few minutes so you better head off." She blurted out in her best acting voice. Lexi was kind of shocked at herself for thinking of a plan so on-the-spot. "He asked me to show you the way so you don't get lost." Lexi turned to the auror, for which she still didn't know his name, and gave him a look of 'please just go along with me here'.

Nick nodded and let out a heavy sigh, fighting back the urge to grin out of relief. Crisis averted, right? "She's right!" He said as he gave yet another nod. "I mean, how could you not be?"

His arms unfolded quickly as he pushed them into his pocket, glancing at the girl beside him. He was confused only for a moment before his eyes widened in realization. "Oh! Right! How did I forget?" He glanced at his watch and shook his head. "What an impression that would make, eh? Being late for a meeting with the Headmaster himself!"

Nick paused just for a moment before slowly starting to walk. "It was--er, it was nice to see you, Ozma. I'll be sure to let all of my friends know what an honour it was!"

"Not so fast!" bellowed Ozma ominously. Uh-oh. Trouble?

But she only floated sweetly after them, skirt hems billowing behind her on an invisible breeze. "I'll just tag along, shall I?" Eeeeek, what? "The Headmaster just adores me," she gushed, glasping her transparent hands together. "We can chit chat along the way and have a dandy time!"

Completely oblivious to how they wanted to get rid of her, Ozma hung close like a puppy desperate for attention.

Lexi began walking after Nick as he took off for his non-existant meeting with the Headmaster, and all seemed well until...

"I'll just tag along, shall I?" Oh, bugger! So very close.

Stopping in her tracks, Lexi's face turned to one of defeat and confusion. She swallowed hard and glanced to Nick, an apologetic half-smile on her face, not sure what to do now. Crud. How were they going to get out of this one?

"You don't have to do that, Ozma! I'm sure the meeting between them will be rather dull?" Lexi said, turning back to face Ozma with a smile.

Nick groaned slightly under his breath before turning. "She's right. It's all business," he said as he shook his head. "Completely boring, and I wouldn't want to make you suffer through such a thing. It's not fun at all."

He paused for a moment. "I, er, appreciate the thought, though! I'm sure we'll be able to have a talk another time?" Here, he flashed another grin. "I just don't want to make someone of your... status suffer through something that I need to take care of."

[ garrr, sorry for keeping you waiting! i flaked! ]

Alright, alright, so their hints were dripping with obvious irritation laced into flattering tones and gushing words. Ozma wasn't that much of a dolt. She frowned, as if thinking it over.

"Yes, well," she said, playing along, "I suppose I do have more important things to do than muck about with you lot." It wasn't easy to hide the hurt and sting behind those careless words, however. Ozma was an extremely emotional ghost, if you hadn't noticed already. "I'll just be on my merry way then." Merry -- HAH! "I've got an appointment with a Second Year girl who's grown way too big for her breeches!"

Yes, Fionnabhair McFinn, watch out!

"Farewell, inconsequential mortals," she called out in a misty, melodramatic voice, gliding off ahead of them and out of sight.

So Lexi stood there, with a slightly confused expression but still trying to look normal as if those little white lies were true. She did dislike lying, but the case really called for it. With Ozma's known tempermant, Lexi was unsure when she'd switch from kind and gentle to menacing and grouchy.

Scratching at the back of her head slightly, she gave a genuine smile to the ghost as she stated that she had more important things to do. "Take care, Ozma!" She called with a small wave of her hand, turning as she floated off ahead of her and Nick.

Of course. The auror.

Lexi stood in silence for a moment next to him before turning to him. "So, err... I guess you're off the hook then." Lexi said aloud with a soft smile, feeling a bit awkward in the silence. Taking a better look at him, she realized that he didn't seem that old at all. Most of the aurors stationed around the school looked to be into their 40's.

"Sorry for not introducing myself. I'm Alexis Winchester." She then said, holding her hand out to shake his.

Winchester.... Winchester. Why did that name sound familiar to him? Nick mulled this over or a moment before shrugging it off, flashing the girl a grin. "... thanks," he said with a slightly sheepish grin. "It's really strange. Werewolves? Vampires? Creepy dark overlords? I can handle those without a problem. Ghosts, not so much. No idea why, but it might have to do with the lack of being corporeal..."

He chuckled a little and gently shook her hand. "Thanks again. Name's Nick. Nick Parker," he said. "And what exactly is a pretty girl like you doing out by herself?" He questioned as he cocked his head to the side. "Not that I mind, of course! I'm just curious."

Hee, Winchester.
I assume the posting order doesn't include Ozma anymore? So I'll just go ahead..))

Lexi chuckled at his comment about not liking ghosts, and she then dropped her hand back to her side after he shook it. "It was no problem. And I really don't blame you about the whole ghost thing. Especially Ozma, she can be... well, unpredictable."

Uh oh, here comes the blushing. Her cheeks instantly flushed as he grinned at her with a compliment. Poor Lexi wasn't that great with guys, but she had to notice that Nick was good looking - and a charmer. "Oh, well, I was taking a walk around. I do that sometimes... just to clear my head." She smiled back to him before diverting her eyes down to her feet, cheeks going red.

Oh geez. He was an auror - and she was heading around after supper unsupervised. Lexi mentally scolded herself at the thought of getting a detention on the first time she meets Nick. "I hope I wasn't breaking any rules, Mr. Parker." Lexi glanced back up to him with a questioned look, slightly frowning.
