Week/Date/Time: 'Promises and Plans' / Sunday, 9 October / 1:00pm Location: By the Kitchens Open to: Rylie Currently involving: Sebastian (who shall not abandon this thread!) and Ryliiie
To say Sebastian wasn't shocked would be lying. He could not have possibly been any more shocked. First by the not understanding bit. What was he not understanding. He thought he was doing awfully well understanding, under the circumstances. Understanding all sort of things he wouldn't normally be willing to understand. Or something. Okay, maybe he was confused.
Then she kissed him? Okay, so. Okay. He could deal with that. Seeing as he was such a pro now, of course. Practically literate in the arena. Oh no, oh no, oh no, he was going to mess something up and he was positive his hand wouldn't be too nice to hold because it was probably clammy or something and why was he even thinking about this? Because thinking about how to kiss was worse? Probably. He had to not think. Except that just made him hit Rylie's shoulder with elbow as he attempted to move closer. Which brought on the thinking-shock! again. Ngh.
"Oh! Sorry! Um," Sebastian paused and realized he was now holding onto her arm again. Which seemed as if they were being rather repetitive, except it was less awkward this time. And he didn't feel any hysteria coming on... "I think... I understand. Sorry," he added in a small voice and scrunched his nose in embarassment. Or faintness really. He was still hungry actually. Why did he just think of that? Also, Rylie looked rather nice post-traumatic stress and everything. Random random random.
Not that he... that he... Oh really. What was the use?
What if he didn't want her to kiss him? What if the first time was simply an accident? What if a house elf had made him lose his balance and he had fallen... er... to her lips? It was possible! 'Thought not probable, so enjoy this you daft girl!' the rational part of her brain screamed back.
In any normal situation, a situation without her lips attached to someone else's, she probably would have thought 'ow' or something similar as she was elbowed in the shoulder. Instead, she smiled at the prospect of him actually attempting to move closer. So it had failed. So what? She was actually starting to forget about the house elves.
He was holding onto her arm again. For some reason she hoped it would just stay there, but it seemed like a ridiculous idea to have. At least nothing was touching her toes, right? She was obviously loads better.
"Don't apologize! Well, I mean.... not for everything," she said, laughing just slightly afterward.
What did he have to be sorry for? She was the one who couldn't communicate verbally! Not that she regretted choosing another option, but still...
"Maybe you should eat something," she said, blinking a few times. She had no idea where that had come from.
They were in the kitchens, and it wasn't as if he had planned it to take this route! So, he must have been hungry? Maybe she should let go of him now, allow him some space to move? Merlin. She was definitely thinking too much.
Okay, things seemed to have calmed down then. The elves had gone off. Though probably to cook dozens of more things to shove in their hands. Sebastian's spoon was gone and Rylie wasn't holding anything. And the kitchen was rather tidy actually. He'd just noticed that.
Not that he cared, except, um. Yes, things were fine. People did this. Maybe not Sebastian people, not with older girls- oh Merlin oh Merlin. Thought. Out. Brain. Now. Okay. That was fine. Take a breath of air or something. Yes... air that smelled like creepy house elves.
"Oh sorry, gah. I mean," he had become hopeless. Once he was articulate, or could be most of the time. Now his language skills had died. They should come and take away his prefect badge, really. Berate him in the halls too. "I mean, I'm sorry for apologizing," making a brief face, he slowly went on, "Because I'm fine. This is fine. Good, actually. I'm just... you know. This way?"
Momentarily appalled by the fact he had just been brutally honest about himself, albeit in a backwards confusing way, Sebastian shut his mouth again. And twitched, took his hand off Rylie's arm and placed it back on. Only to pull it off again and run it through his hair, attempting a grin which he hoped would look charming. Then he remembered the head pat, and whipped his hand straight off again.
But then... "Eat something?..." OH! Right, he was starving. Insanely enough, he couldn't exactly bring himself to get up and find something. Not only would he have to deal with the elves again, but he'd have to get up. And then come back. And he didn't really know what he was supposed to do now.
Oh look! A loaf of bread sticking off the side of the table. Sebastian reached for it and managed to pull an end off. He began picking around the edges, nipping away at the crust with his fingers. Before realizing... he didn't really feel hungry anymore. Oh MERLIN his stomach had abandoned him! For snogging?!
Somehow, in the midst of all the confusion and.. well... snogging, she had forgotten that Sebastian was, in fact, that way. If he felt that he needed to apologize for something, then he would. It was probably a good thing that he had even voiced some sort of thought, as she could hardly think of more than one or two words at a time. And he was smiling at her in this way that was just so... Sebastian! It was making her positively giddy, which was also highly unusual.
If there was one thing about Rylie, it was that most everything bounced off of her. She was indifferent, detached and observing things from afar. As much as she loved who she was, and would continue to be herself, she was starting to realise that some things were much better to experience first hand. Much, much better.
She had expected him to move away from her and actually brave finding a house elf to supply him with whatever he felt like eating, but he reached over for a loaf of bread and began to eat it sort of... disinterested.
"I like you, you know, this way," Rylie managed to say, though a bit late as a response.
He was a year younger! And picking at a loaf of bread! And had possibly the most awkward social skills of anyone, ever. And yet, she was completely gone. Despite the fact that she'd always been told that you couldn't choose who you fancied (it just sort of happened), she felt as if she had the choice, she'd pick him anyway. Just because he was Sebastian, and that seemed to be enough.
It suddenly occurred to Sebastian that he was going to get slaughtered. Not literally of course. But people would slaughter him nonetheless. Mostly Juhi.... If she ever found out. Found out... about what? About Rylie and him... snogging... in the kitchens. With house elves? Merlin yes.
Well, he would just choose to not think about that for now. Healthy choice. One that he wouldn't have to lose sleep over or anything... except he probably would anyway NGH.
He really wasn't the sort of boy who could easily handle these things. Then again, he wasn't the sort of person who could handle DA. And, well he was... right? Besides, he was nearly, well, legally an adult. Wasn't he? So he could deal with this. Albeit in a haphazard confused way. He was a reasonable sort of person. Perhaps.
And this was... not bad. It was pretty good. Well, apart from the fact that it seemed to be anihilating not only his sentence structure, but vocabulary as well. Price to pay, he supposed.
"Um, yes," was all Sebastian could really say to that. He thought he'd done enough blabbering today, and saying something like 'I like you' was far too much. His quota had been reached. Still, he shot Rylie another grin before setting down the bread, as it seemed he was definitely not going to eat it now.
"I... I think we should probably go," he added, before realizing this may come off as something else altogether, and with a shocked look on his face, followed it up quickly with, "I mean I've really had enough of these elves and they probably have things to do and also... we might get caught. Not! Not caught snogging. Just... caught in the kitchens. Where I hear tell people aren't supposed to be... you know. Oh glargh."
Apparently he hadn't have enough of blabbering. Sebastian cringed and put his head in his hands in pure frusteration. You'd think he could at least use proper punctuation by now. Structure, alright... but commas or something please?!
Er....yes. Rylie, though she had some disturbing urge to stay exactly as she was, knew that his suggestion was a good one. There were only so many house elf staring contests one could handle in one day, and she was fairly certain she'd gone over the reasonable amount by now. Her train of thought was strange, but it was slowly coming back to its normal course. First, she wondered if other people had been snogging in the kitchens, as the house elves didn't seem to be bothered by it too much. If so, why in the world would they pick such a place for snogging? It was hot and sticky and a little frightening, and while it made sense for herself and Sebby because... it just did, she couldn't imagine students willingly seeking out the kitchens as a place for that sort of interaction.
"Seb love, I seriously doubt there are aurors or other authority figures patroling outside of the kitchens on a Sunday afternoon, but you make a very good point about the elves," Rylie told him and finally stood up from her spot on the floor.
As odd as it may have looked, she began to stretch herself out a bit. With all the random motions she'd had to make to avoid buggy eyes and the twisting of arms that came from lack of brain power, she needed it. However; she did grin at him as she raised her arms over her head one final time and then let them rest at her side.
"What if we had been caught snogging, can you imagine? Not to sound insulting, but we were already...er.. on edge enough as it was, don't you think?"
She laughed silently for a moment and shook her head. She was really glad this had all happened, but she assumed it would be even better once they had some time to clear their heads a bit. It was sort of sudden, but not... exactly. Either way, she knew it would probably be easier for him to relax if she returned to her usual state of being. It would be familiar, and natural, and the awkward feeling of it all would subside a bit. At least she hoped so. As fond of a memory as the whole situation would make, it wasn't a good way to constantly be. Not at that heightened level, anyhow. Sebby was always going to be a bit... well, that way, as he had said earlier. But somehow he was all the more charming for it.
"I did find a particularly good book in the midst of the evil ones, you know. It was about this old wand business.... a century or so ago? It had a lot of good detail about this one wizard who had the hair of a glumbumble for a core, and it apparently excelled in levitation spells, but no one knows why," Rylie rambled a bit, but it was still conversation, and she had some control over her brain now.
She was still smiling. That much was beyond her now, she'd have to wear her emotions on her sleeve and hope it didn't matter. It shouldn't matter. She was happy... and she was showing it. Problem? No.
Well Rylie seemed fine. Talking about glumbumble and some ancient wand business, which sounded half-way interesting actually. If he could focus just a bit more. As it was, well. He had no idea why she was stretching, because what? They couldn't have been in here that long. Unless the time had not only felt like centuries but actually been centuries. Some objecting corner of his brain told him this was not really plausible, and to move on really.
Standing up himself, Sebastian had a moment where he scrambled at what exactly it was he was supposed to do now. Or... how to go about this. Just leave the room? Did he really have anything else to do? Besides study that is.... Though somehow, he didn't think his mind would quite grasp the complexities that were Muggle Dusting Techniques right now. And definitely not Ancient Runes of the African Coastline.
Maybe he should just do what he always did, and sort of follow after her. Edging off at the appropriate interval to get his brain back? Or... gah he didn't know! He had to stop thinking about it. So what if he babbled, the babbling would stop the thinking.
"I think you have just placed a whole new realm of horror into my head. Really. Who would catch us? Who comes into the kitchens? Filch? Ohhhh eurgh," Sebastian made a face and ran a hand through his hair to make up for not actually moving yet. He realized then that he had formed complete sentences, and felt slightly proud.
"And that sounds... interesting," he realized she might be trying to veer off onto more comfortable ground, but he couldn't really take it in. It was an odd feeling, not being to take in academic information. Maybe it came along with... snogging? Grgh. Noo, maybe it came along with snogging in front of house elves while holding unwanted food. Probably. In any case, it wasn't entirely a bad feeling...
Now there was a highly amusing mental image. Sebastian and herself clinging to each other's arms as an angry Filch burst into the room and threatened to tell the Headmaster... or worse, SNAPE! She had originally been thinking just some hungry student, but his idea was much, much better. Well, better in a 'look back at it and laugh' sort of way, but one thousand times worse in the sense of mortification. A small sort of groan of dread escaped her lips before she began to giggle. Leave it to Sebastian to think of something like that. Honestly.
"Well, leave it to me to have that sort of effect on your mind. You know, the other day I was seriously considering taking a few Arithmancy books and placing them in the Ancient Runes section, just to see if you'd mention it later," Rylie stated, tucking some hair behind her ear.
It was probably in response to Sebby running a hand through his own hair. She was in a sort of subconcious observation mode, trying to take in everything he did and calculate it into some sort of response on her part. She felt as though she were more aware of everything than usual, probably still reacting to the fact that she had recently been snogging him. She had half a mind to pinch herself and make sure it weren't some dream she was having, her brain placing events from the past weeks in an odd sequence she could be in awe over later. It was him... and her, and HE STARTED IT.
Well, as strange as it would look to Sebby, she did pinch herself. And it hurt more than she was expecting. She winced a bit because of it, and knew she'd have to say something, no matter how embarrassing that would be.
"Er....I'm awake, then. That settles that," she said quietly and grinned.
He wasn't really moving anywhere, that was what she noticed then. He said that they should go, but they continued to stand there. But, now instead of just doing something, she had to start thinking again. Did he mean leave and go their separate ways, or were they going to continue to be in each other's company and leave everything else to be implied? Oh bloody hell, she needed to take charge. She need to be RYLIE and make up her mind and go for it.
"Well, if you have some free time, I suppose I could show you the highlights. There was a picture of him leviatating a giant somewhere that was somewhat astounding," Rylie suggested with a smirk, not really caring about the book at all.
She figured he might be able to pick up on that. He was clever, after all. The only difficulty that would come now were the questions buzzing in her brain. How close should she stand to him? Who should lead the way? Was hand holding acceptable? What in the world had she done with that book?
"Well, I'm glad you have such confidence in my book-finding skills. And I'm going to pretend that wasn't a jibe on me spending too much time amongst the shelves thank you," Sebastian replied in what he thought was a calm manner. He was still speaking considerably faster than normal, but his mind wasn't racing any longer. Rylie seemed to be calm as well, and it was all sliding back into some place resembling normal.
And then... awake?
"Er, was there some debate about... oh." Ah. Sebastian suddenly felt entirely ridiculous once again and began to laugh. Though it wasn't anything near the hysteria of before... it was actually quite relieving. And he had to admit, if only to himself, edging on flattering. NOT that he should think about it that way, no.
Aaand here came another awkward silence in which Sebastian stood amongst house elf and food remains, wondering if Rylie was going to make decisions for him. So... not entirely manly or adult-like. But couldn't he claim temporary loss of brain as an excuse?
Probably not. Oh! Thank Merlin she was suggesting something.
"Um, sure. I have... time and things," that was incredibly smooth. Ha! As if this whole occurance had been incredibly smooth. Well, it had been smooth for him. No fainting or spouting of horrid poetic phrases this time and ohhhh he should not think about that.
Sebastian had really no idea of the protocol you inacted after snogging someone. Or if it was different when it happened in front of people. With spoons and half eaten food items. So he did what he would normally have done, though in a slower manner, and opened the kitchen door for Rylie, waiting for her to step out.
It was rushed, but it was there. A classic Sebastian reply, and that instead of calming her down, made her heart beat a bit faster. She was surprised that the thing wasn't completely tired out by now. How long could one live with a heart beating too quickly? Why did that question urge her to go to the library and look up an answer? Oh, she was all over the place today!
He was laughing at her. He was laughing at her pinching herself. It had been funny, sure, but when did he become the calm one of the two? Last time she checked, she was the one who was getting herself under control. Were they ever going to be in the same mode at the same time?
The corners of her mouth tugged upward into a smile, and then she began to laugh. Sebby's laughter was apparently contagious, and she covered her mouth with her hand, though she knew it wouldn't hide anything. Why did she want to hide her smile, anyway? Mental. She was absolutely mental and it felt incredible.
At least he was agreeing to spend time with her. Were they going to have to... talk about everything that had happened? Should she say she didn't just mean to snog him once, but really truly cared for him? Somehow she didn't think they were ready for that at the moment. She'd get to it eventually, unless it was understood without words. Was it? Merlin. He was adorable, and holding the door for her, and she was mush.
"I didn't know you were a gentleman, Seb love. You really do learn something new everyday," she teased and headed out of the kitchens.
"Oh, and as for earlier? Definitely a jibe on your shelf time. I've heard rumours about you and a certain librarian that've got me a bit jealous," she told him, turning to face him when he walked out also.
Sebastian shoved his hands in his pockets and realized he didn't know what to do after... what was it? So gentlemanly holding the door open. Instead, he shrugged his shoulders up in an attempt to maybe do something if the occassion called for it. Though he wouldn't be able to tell anyone what.
Making a face at the gentleman comment, he replied with, "Oh, Pince? Alas, she has forsaken me. Some other poor library-dweller could obviously outsort me."
Pausing, Sebastian stopped to open another door, then realizing what he was doing and giving Rylie a do-not-say-it look before continuing.
"We would have had to fight to the death, you know. Had to back out. Er... bad knee?" Alright, so, he'd decided to handle the speaking situation by making things up. Or being sarcastic to a truly remarkable degree. Which was what he usually did, mind... but this was different.
Somewhat embarassed, he added in a quiet voice, "Of course, nevermind about that all now. Pince... out of the question."
He hoped she'd realize he wasn't just being an idiot, though he felt an awful lot like one. He shrugged his hands back into his pocket as they made their way back up to the Claw Common Room.
Goodbye house elves!
