Erik was glad to be back on the moving staircases. He hadn't spent nearly enough time on them in the current year, as they were one of his favourite parts of Hogwarts. His morning had been filled with yelling at younger students to halt as he continued with his quest to make the staircases change according to his will. So far, he'd managed to do no such thing, and had frightened a few Hufflepuffs with his... wrath. Now he was moping on a top step and ignoring the portrait of a young girl that was currently giggling and pointing at him with amusement.
"OH DEAR GOD!" Erik shouted as an older Ravenclaw went slipping down a large number of stairs beside him.
The last time he had seen that happen... he hadn't. In fact, he had never seen anyone trip down the staircases before, though he'd seen someone get stuck on a trick step. Not really the same thing, and not nearly as painful.
He raced down the steps to where the Ravenclaw had landed and offered his hand for support.
"Are you... I just... how did that happen?" he asked the boy,
( ... )
At the offered hand, Tobias grabbed it and hauled himself to his feet, wincing at the painfulness of this particular situation. It wasn't just the physical pain either; it was embarassing to have just slipped down the stairs.
Before he could answer the boy as to how it had happened, which, by the way, he thought should have been quite obvious, the boy was yelling -- at the stairs.
Yelling at the stairs.
...how very odd. Moving all his limbs to make sure that he'd not broken anything, he looked curiously at the younger boy. "I... missed the step," he murmured after a moment, still looking quite embarassed. "But they, uh... they can't hear you, you know... yelling won't... help that."
At least, that's what he assumed. For all he knew, however, the stairs could have been a conscious thing, trying to throw him down them in a fit of anger or something. Heaven knows, the stairs could have been a vengeful sort.
Erik raised an eyebrow at the boy. Was he seriously trying to make sense of his shouting? Did he not see the Gryffindor patch sewn right onto Erik's black robes? That should make sense of all of it, honestly. But he shrugged his shoulders and smiled warmly as the boy got to his feet again.
"Do you really know that for sure? Hogwarts is full of secrets mate. Besides, yelling at the stairs is a way for me to release how I feel, gives me a sense of control and what have you," Erik explained and patted the railing.
He loved those bloody stairs, and he'd never really known why.
"I am currently on a mission to control these staircases just by my will. I'm determined to succeed in getting them to move where I please," he continued and began to laugh.
He probably made a very frightening first impression. Good thing no one was around to force him to be sane.
Control by shouting at stairs. Tobias took the boy in for a moment, noting the Gryffindor patch. Well, they did tend to be a bit... odder than the rest of the student body, but perhaps he was on to something with the whole shouting thing.
If anything else, perhaps it released tension. "Controlling the stairs?"
For some reason, the fact that he'd made a complete fool of himself already made him feel a bit less shy around the boy. Or maybe it was the fact that this boy was a bit off his rocker. It made it easier to talk to him, anyway. "How're you... what're you doing to do that?"
He sat down on one of the steps, rubbing his back. Merlin, that fall had hurt. Perhaps he'd have to go to the nurse after all. He hoped not, however. He'd already been there once this week, and that was more than enough for him.
