Aug 03, 2016 17:03

It is August 3rd and we are 3 days into the world post Cursed Child's publication. So I want to know what people are thinking. Are you like me having read Evy (slumber)'s post of spoilers/rumors and think that I am SO not going to buy it much less read it? (I still haven't read it :P) Or did you love being back there with the HP gang? Let us know ( Read more... )

I was honestly VERY sceptic when I got it because I'd read some spoilers (that then turned out to be barely any spoilers at all, except for Bellamort aka Delphi), but then ended up absolutely ADORING it.

I obviously get where the whole Fanfic vibe comes from (and I blame it on the different form and different "actual" author, no matter how very much it's based on JKR's story), and of course there's a TON of cliché's in there (but lbr, there were clichés in the actual books too), but there's a lot more things that just completely struck me SO hard.

I'm doing a spoiler/reaction post on my LJ right now at the same time, so some things might seem familiar to those of you on my flist, BUT: the thing that just hit me the very, very hardest was the tiny but heart-wrenching Draco/Astoria storyline. I never paid much attention to the Hogwarts-gen ships because I was always more intrigued by the adults, but I sort of liked the sound of Draco/Astoria, and now... Wow, now I ship them so hard. Now I'm so incredibly heartbroken too, because there is SO much overlapping with my Lucius/Narcissa headcanon, and oh my God, how much they loved each other... It was so beautiful. So sad and so incredibly beautiful at the same time, so tragically romantic... <3333 I felt so incredibly bad for Draco, waaaaah.

I've always been someone to look further than the main plot, to be particularly struck and fascinated by minor things, scenes, characters, that actually are of great significance if you analyse them further... And that's also what I loved about Cursed Child - I did quite enjoy the main plot despite all its flaws and clichés and I will admit that it had me gasping from time, AND that I think Scorpius is absolutely precious, but there are just SO many things on the side that lured me in entirely, haha. The character developments. Draco and Astoria. Draco in general who was my favourite character in the whole play, Minerva obviously who was my second favourite character because she was just so perfect... The character relationships, just... Everything. I'm probably way too tired to make sense right now, but there was SO MUCH to read between the lines and also on the lines besides the time travel plot...

BECAUSE I'M TOO RAMBLY:

Then, Delphi. Of course we cannot forget about Delphi. I think she would have needed more screen/stage time to make her character work out better, because in the way they handled her she didn't show up at all for most of the second part and then was almost forgotten about again despite actually being the main antagonist of the whole thing, but otherwise... Something was off about her. Something was missing. It felt like something about her evilness was off... She seemed like she was trying way too hard to be evil, to be like her father, which somehow reduced that whole sense of menace, if that makes any kind of sense? There's two options, now: Either it was intended, which would make it BRILLIANT and her a really good character (I need to re-read her scenes probably to go into full dramaturgy mode and analyse her better), or there's just really actually something missing about her. Something off. Either way, though, I felt so bad for her at the end. At the end of the day she was only a mistreated orphan too, not unlike Harry himself...

Her mere existence, though, gives me SO MANY FEELS! I've already mentioned being a Bellamort shipper (and the whole "Rodolphus, Bellatrix' loyal husband" thing also made my Bella/Rodolphus feels flare up again), so of course the fact that they have a child, that Bellatrix was pregnant during this time of war... It's intriguing, fascinating, and gives me ALL the fic ideas. And all the feels. ALL THE ANGSTY FEELS. And it also makes me wonder how Bellatrix felt about her daughter - if there actually were some motherly instincts, if she actually somehow loved her in the short time she was alive after giving birth (which I kind of believe, because my theory stands that Bellatrix is very much capable of love), and so many more things... THERE IS SO MUCH TO THINK ABOUT NOW, OMG. I cannot wait to dive deeper into this!

Anyway, I LOVED IT. Not everything about it, but many things - and somehow the clichés are just meant to happen, aren't they? Maybe there were a tad too many, but then there were also a lot of non-cliché-y things that just totally made up for it!

I'm definitely SUPER curious about how everything will look on stage, and I'm pretty sure that (looking at the stage directions) it will be absolutely spectacular, and I just REALLY cannot wait to see it! Even if it's only in August 2017, hopefully still with the same cast, haha.

I definitely think that it must be amazing and make so much more sense on stage over the script and if anything I am glad that CC has fulfilled your wildest ship dreams!!

Yeah, the stage will probably something be ENTIRELY different - and I cannot wait to see it, did I mention that already? xD. And I wouldn't quite say it fulfilled my wildest ship dreams, BUT IT CERTAINLY GAVE ME OLD FEELS BACK AND ADDED CRAZY NEW FEELS ADN WAAAAAH XD.
