Applicant 570:

Vote 1:
Striped Polecat
  • Our applicant considers herself nocturnal, which the striped polecat is.
  • She is also a loner, and striped polecats are solitary creatures.
  • She wanted her Animagus form to have fur and a tail, both of which the polecat has. (Its fur is pretty long)
  • Her preferred kind of weather was warm so I went for the striped polecat, which is primarily found in savannahs and open country in Africa.

Vote 2:
For this applicant, I suggest the Gray-handed night monkey. The gray-handed night monkey has fur and is a good climber as the applicant requested. It lives in the tropical climate of Colombia and Venezuela, so she wouldn't have to worry about getting cold and its arboreal lifestyle could satisfy her desire to be in the air. As the name implies, this monkey is nocturnal and like the applicant, this monkey prefers small, familiar groups rather like a family.

Vote 3:
For you I picked the American Badger. And not just because you're the perfect Hufflepuff. This badger is mostly nocturnal but has been seen being active during the day as well. It has fur and a tail like you requested. They become much less active in the winter, which matches with your dislike of cold weather. They aren't the fastest, but they are exceptional diggers and can use that as a means of defense. The last reason I think the American Badger really suits you is because it's listed as a most solitary creature and I think that matches with the descriptions you gave in your application.

Vote 4:
Peregrine Falcon: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peregrine_falcon

Definitely got a feel for a bird since she likes the air and put that as one of her favorite elements.

She wanted to be able to protect herself by flight and the Peregrine Falcon is the fasted bird when it is in dive mode.

She also listed night owl and warm climate and this applies to the Peregrine falcon as well.

Let's see... you love warmth, are nocturnal, and are torn between water and air but don't like scales. Putting things together, I feel the sea otter is right for you. First of all, it's a furry water creature, which fits with how you love water but want fur. Also, although sea otters are mainly diurnal (while you're nocturnal), that can fit in with you because they quite often feed around your preferred time of at or shortly after midnight. Finally, you want a way to defend and protect yourself; sea otters actually use rocks to defend themselves - almost as if they were human!

Vote 6:
Bahaman Raccoon! Raccoons were traditionally seen to be solitary creatures - they shied away from other creatures, humans, and their own kind alike. Now, we've found out that they actually tend to be around other raccoons of the same gender, but only ever a few. And those are family. So in terms of your own shy personality but your openness with people you're close to, I think this is pretty close because it allows you that aloneness that you want, while giving you, well, a family of sorts so that when you want to just be yourself and be bright, they'll be around.

Now, in terms of movement, raccoons are really strong swimmers as well as really good climbers. Although they don't have much to do with air (except for the air that wooshes up at you as you fall off a tree or something) they do like water. And the Bahaman raccoons in particular, so I thought that pretty fitting. You wanted defensiveness, so the raccoon both climbs like Spiderman, which'll be helpful if you ever need to get away and pronto. So, this'll keep you safe and protected, both from physical danger and if you get shy.

The Bahaman Raccoon (obviously) lives in the Bahamas. They have temperatures which are usually nice and hot, so you wouldn't need to be fussed about the cold too often. Also, they've got fur -like you wanted- to keep them warm, so you won't need to feel uncomfortable in this form. The fact that they're largely nocturnal creatures also seemed very appropriate, you get to keep out of the day and act when you feel most comfortable.

Also, they have tails! So, that's always a plus right?

Vote 7:
Brown fur seal
- The applicant loves water. Seals live on rookeries on beaches and spend most of the year swimming in the ocean.
- The applicant prefers a warm climate. The brown fur seal can be found in warm countries like Africa and Australia.
- The applicant said she would like fur and a tail for balance. Seal flippers can be awkward on land but allow them to move with ease in the water.
- The applicant is shy with strangers but outgoing around her friends. This species gathers into colonies and they swim together in large groups. In relation to humans, they are inquisitive and friendly when they meet divers in the water but tend to get anxious when they are near people on land.
- The applicant wants the ability to defend herself from predators. Seals use several strategies to outsmart sharks.

Vote 8:
This applicant has an affinity for air and water, but since she is also attracted to birds but does not want an animagus with scales, this made me decide on a bird rather than an aquatic animal. She is nocturnal and prefers a warm environment. One bird that fits the nocturnal, warm environment, and living near water is the Galapagos Barn Owl. I chose this over other barn owls for the fact that it lives in such an isolated place and the applicant described themselves as a loner and as shy. The applicant also wanted an animal capable of self-defense, and wikipedia says of the barn owl, "It can hiss like a snake to scare away intruders, and when captured or cornered, it throws itself on its back and flails with sharp-taloned feet, making for an effective defense."

#5 was mine! (I voted otter on the only non-otter-choice applicant this batch…)
