Applicant #484
Very quickly I thought you would make a great Eurasian Lynx - Lynx lynx and the further I read the more convinced I got. Here's why:
you say you're like a cat, so something with feline qualities
--> this one is obvious Lynx are felines
you stick to a small group of people to whom you are very loyal to
--> the Lynx is territorial, it spends a lot of the time alone, guard their territory fiercly, the female are very protective of their young
you're guarded with strangers
--> it's difficult to observe the Lynx in the wild because it's so prudent, it stays well away from people, some photographers managed to get closer than one normaly would, because they came back day after day until the Lynx stopped considering them as an immediate threat
you've been treated unfairly in your life
--> the Eurasian Lynx has too, especially in Eastern France where I live. Because it's a predator, it's been hunted and hated (still is), eradicated for absurd reasons, then reintroduced but still illegally killed.
you're quiet, a calm observer
--> it's stealthy, a great observer, it moves quietly
you're comfortable close to the earth and you love the woods
--> it's a forest dweller, close to the earth, even lives in a den when it has its youngs (this is the part of you're application where I started thinking it was an uncannily perfect fit)
you prefer cool weather and you think snow would be a plus
--> it lives in places where it snows, and where it stays relatively cool in the summer
you love the night (and you have good night vision)
--> the Lynx is mostly nocturnal
you want an animagus with "log fur with distinctive markings"
--> it disappears easily in the environment, it's fur hides it well and the markings are very distinctive (and beautiful)
you want to be agile, be able to climb a tree
--> I don't know how far up a tree a lynx could get, but it is definitely agile, it can climb and is quick in an escape
good sight, good hearing, keen sense of smell,
--> all of the above. It's a hunter so it needs to have all that. I don't know if it's an English expression as well, but in French "to have a Lynx's eye" means to have a great sight and to be a keen observer
