Normally, on this date most years since 2003, I have traditionally posted about one subject in particular.
This year, however, something else pulls me back to my old LJ haunts as well. Eight years ago today I sat down on a bench in downtown Paterson while waiting for my train home to arrive, pulled out a large spiral-bound notebook, and wrote at the top of the first page, "Latura simply knew things."
A few minutes ago, I wrote the last line of "Latura of Redwall."
Is there a word for something *bigger* than a novel? There are terms for literary works between short story and novel length - novelettes, novelas - but nothing for a work that transcends even Ayn Rand/L. Ron Hubbard scope in sheer word count, which "Latura" definitely does. I think I shall have to coin a new term for this auspicious occasion. I'm leaning toward "novelith" - a cross between "novel" and "monolith." If anyone can come up with something better, let me know; until then, I'm sticking with this.
In any event, the latest rather large installment of the Urthblood Cycle is now finished, with just a couple of chapters and the Epilogue left to publicly post. In another few weeks, that will be done as well, and then I plan to take a long and well-deserved break from All Things Redwall. Maybe it's time to turn my attention toward getting some original works published? That would be nice. At least I could try, whether I succeed or not. It would be something to keep me occupied and out of trouble!
