Chapter 33
Michael woke up confused. His whole body ached. He felt something against his fingers and opened his eyes slowly. When he saw Alex's delicate fingers holding his, he squeezed slightly, frowning when he didn't have any energy to do more then a light squeeze.
“Mikey!” Alex said loudly, turning and looking at him. Michael frowned more.
“What...?”
“You wouldn't wake up.” Alex says quickly. “And I got scared, and I...I called for...”
“You're up.” Michael looked up when he saw a paramedic come in. “You're at Grand Central hospital. You were burning a fever of nearly 70.” Michael frowned, he blinked at the man that walked through the door and was now standing next to Alex, a hand touching his shoulder. Michael looked down, he felt jealous of that hand on Alex's shoulder. Who was he? And why did he feel the need to touch his Alex? “I'm Leo. I was one of the paramedics that came to get you.”
“Ambulance? Who?” Michael frowned more, none of this made any sense.
“Alex called,” Leo smiled.
“You did?” Michael looked at Alex who was looking down, picking at his hands. He nodded his head slowly, his eyes not meeting his. “Thank you.” Michael whispers. Alex nods again and Michael can tell he's close to tears. “Come here.” he whispers, holding his arms for him.
“Doctor said I couldn't.” Alex mumbles still looking down.
“You were burning up.” Leo adds. “You're on an ice blanket, though I'm sure it's okay for you to sit with him, Alex. I'll go get a nurse to come and make sure it is.” Leo squeezes Alex's shoulder and Michael's glad that Alex doesn't lean up against him.
The Doctor came in and checked on Michael. He told him that his fever was slowly going, but he still needed to be checked on and it wasn't advised for him to leave. Due to the circumstances, they had said it was okay for Alex to stay with him. Michael was grateful for that. He was trying to put on a brave face for Alex but he felt as though every bone in his body was on fire and aching. Alex had hardly said anything to him, and when Michael phoned his Mom to let her know what was happening, he hadn't wanted to talk to her. He just sat at Michael's side, clutching onto his hand tightly with one hand, and his teddy with the other. As his temperature had died down, the ice blanket was removed and the minute the doctor was out of the room, Alex had climbed on the bed and snuggled at his side.
“Am I hurting you?” Alex whispered, his voice sounded so defeated that a sharp pain attacked at Michael's heart because of it.
“No, Lexxie, you're not hurting me.” Michael says softly, his hand coming to Alex's back and rubbing small circles on his skin. “Look at me.”
Alex looks up at him slowly, his blue eyes shining with tears. “Thank you for calling an ambulance. Thank you for looking after me.”
Alex nods his head and hides against him, through the thin hospital gown Michael could feel the tears falling down Alex's cheeks and all he wanted to do more then anything was hold him, tighter, put UP on and hear him laugh. Instead he kissed his forehead and tried to get him to calm down enough to go to sleep.
