Day at the zoo. =)
I forgot to write in my last entry!!
I worked the zoo this morning. Started off doing my normal job (gathering feed buckets/plates from screech owls, turkeys, deer, and foxes and skunks.) During that, I got to play with the deer because he likes to be pet and is really friendly.
After, I bleached a bear cage. Then I went down to clean the wolf cages and give them water. I ended up making eye contact with this wolf who followed me the entire length of the habitat while i was leaving and it was crazy intense.
Then...I went back to find Suzie (the head person) and I thought she was in the panther habitat, so i was trying to see her but couldnt. Then i felt something looking at me. When i looked down I saw one of the panthers staring at me in a semi-aggressive stance. I stared back, and eventually she sat down and relaxed. Let me tell you, there is NOTHING like being sized up by a panther. It is so humbling.
After that I got feedback on the mule training I gave to one of the girls who works at the zoo. Last week, I had taken her with me to play with Billy (the mule) who she was terrified of. By the time we were done, she was grooming him, and said she had no idea why she had been so scared all her life. Apparently, she had told Suzie that I did an amazing job and she feels 1000% percent better about working with him. She also suggested that every handler has a class with me to become more comfortable around him. So I was told today that when I go out on Sunday to work with him, there might be a bunch of other staff there for me to teach!!! =D
Yeah, that was my day at the zoo. Followed by me getting my paper for my DIS signed by Trombley...so it's official, I'm working in my favorite professor's lab next year!!! And then after that, I went to the posse barn and worked Hombre. I got him to load in the trailer first following me with no lead rope, and then to load himself with no one in front of him in the trailer!!! Two weeks ago, this horse would NOT go into a trailer and they had ended up leaving him behind for a number of events because no matter what they tried, the couldnt load him. Yeah. Go me.
