Rating: M - Mature, some violence and adult themes
Pairing: Henry/Vicki
Summary: Vicki is kidnapped, when a dangerous trio need Henry's blood to use with an ancient Egyptian rite to achieve immortality, Henry must find a way to rescue her before it's too late.
Author's Notes: Although I did do some research, my knowledge of Egpytian lore is limited. The museum showing mentioned is based on a special Egytptian show at the Royal Museum in 2000. I may add artwork later if I have time. This was written for
force_oblique who gave me a challenge.
Prompt: One where Henry saves her life and add a little drama.
Entering the police station, Mike had to grudgingly admit Fitzroy's plan was good. He despised the vampire who had become entangled in Vicki's life and was probably connected to the fix she was in now; but Henry was also the only link he had to the supernatural. It grated knowing his best hope of rescuing his former partner was working with Fitzroy, but the unwelcome image of Vicki's body lifeless and broken as he'd seen so many kidnap victims end up was far worse. Saving Vicki was what mattered and Mike would do what had to be done. Squaring his shoulders he knocked on 's door to Crowley's office.
Looking up from her desk Crowley barked, "Cellucci. Didn't I tell you yesterday not to show your face around here?"
"Come on, Captain, I can't just sit around doing nothing," Mike argued.
"There's no way I'm letting you-"
"Work the kidnapping," Mike interjected. "I know that. I'm not asking to work the kidnapping."
"You're not," Crowley said in disbelief.
Shaking his head, Mike steadied his nerves and prepared to play the scene as Henry had coached him. Moving over to Crowley's desk, he leaned over the desk and explained, "The museum. I went there last night when I heard about on the scanner. It's not connected to Vickie's disappearance, is it?"
"No. Why?"
"Because it's the sort of case that could make a guy's career."
Snorting inelegantly, Crowley asked, "You? You're suddenly interested in your career? You who spend your days chasing after Vickie rather than doing real police work, Detective Celluci?"
Fighting the urge to yell, Mike sat on the edge of the desk casually and pretended to study his hand as he countered, "Yeah well, look where Vickie's cases have landed her. Don't get me wrong, Captain, I'm worried about Vickie, I'm not about to lie. But, I was up all night thinking about the museum. If it weren't for her disappearance I'd be the lead on the case wouldn't I?"
Reluctantly Crowley agreed, "Yeah. So?"
"So, give me the museum. I need something else to think of and this way I could be doing some real good."
"And this has nothing to do with Vickie's disappearance," Crowley shot back.
Looking Crowley in the eye, Celluci vowed, "I promise I'm only going to focus on finding the men responsible for the bloodbath at the museum."
Silently he amended, that he would find them so he could find Vickie. Crowley's expression of surprise mixed with triumph angered him. Although he'd always known his boss disliked his former partner he'd never realized just how deep her hatred went. The urge to wipe the smug smile off her face was almost overwhelming when Fitzroy's words came rose up in his mind.
She's alone and hurt, Celluci. This is one time that she won't walk away, unless we help her. What these men want with her, I can't say. But what I can say is that it's an abomination and if we don't get her back soon, she may be lost to us both forever, Henry had said, his voice laced with worry and pain.
A combination of the preparation Henry had given him and his own instincts, Mike continued convincingly, "I have no intentions of asking for special treatment. You have men on Vickie's case and I have to trust you. Do I want to look for her? Yes. But you were right, I'm too close."
Triumph flashed across Crowley's face and she drew out slowly, "I suppose if you're willing to admit you were wrong, I might be able to let you work the museum case."
Gritting his teeth, Mike assured her, "I promise you won't regret it."
"Fine. Kate's on the kidnapping, so you'll be working with Graham."
"Perfect," Mike smiled and left the office. Under his breath once he was out of earshot he muttered, "Bitch."
Heading to Dave's desk, he was pleased to be working with the portly man. Kate was too sharp and he didn't want to risk anyone catching on, too much was riding on what he could find out about the museum. Mike liked Kate and maybe one day could see just how deep that like went; but for now, his duty was to his former partner. Taking a seat and grabbing the file from Dave, Mike forced a careless grin at his outrage.
"Man, you're crazy. Crowley's gonna have your head if she sees you here."
"Crowley just assigned me to the case," Mike informed him and started skimming through the file.
Shaking his head, Dave said, "Uh-huh and it has nothing to do with Vickie right?"
Shooting him a sincere look Mike denied, "No, not a bit. This is case is the kind of chance that comes along once or twice in a guy's career. I'm worried about Vickie and might overhear if they get a lead, but I plan to stick to this case like glue."
"If you say so."
"Seriously. Let's grab some coffee and head to the museum. You drive so I can read through the file and get up to speed," Mike instructed him.
"Really?" Dave questioned, shocked Celluci hadn't probed for details about the blonde detective.
"Absolutely. I want to go over the crimescene to see if anything was missed. I even took the liberty of contacting an expert on Egyptology to find out about the objects that were stolen," Mike informed him, omitting that the expert was Henry Fitzroy and that he would be faxing every page of the files to the vampire.
As Dave stood up and Mike accompanied him out of the precinct. From what Henry said the night before, there would be little else to find. The information they needed wouldn't be in what was left, it would be in what was taken. Although he was impatient to send scan the files and send them to Henry's apartment, the vampire would be sleeping and even though Coreen was waiting, she could do little research on her own. For the first time since crossing paths with the vampire, Mike prayed for nightfall to come quickly as he arrived at the museum and began to walk through the crimescene.
Across town, Henry slept against his will, his nature overruling his desires and Coreen stared at the fax machine anxiously...
