there is a light in your eyes and it never goes out

Hey whats up.

So we went to see Kevin Devine in houston today. It was pretty awesome and we got there about 25 minutes before he went on stage. He was opening for Corinne Bailey Rae so it was a pretty odd pairing so obviously there weren't many people there to see KD (he kept saying "this one is for all six of you here to see me" haha but it was really really good he played a bunch of new stuff and for older stuff he played People Are So Fickle which was awesome and Cotton Crush which I pretty much belted out, yr damned ol' dad, and closed with Lord I Know We don't Talk. The new stuff sounds really good but by the time he was playing LIKWDT people were getting pretty bored with him which is unfortunate because he's so cute to watch onstage. breaking it down on the acoustic guitar. I have some pictures coming up but I'll post them all at the end of the entry.

After his set I went to buy merch (there were shirts! yes!) and I bought a shirt and a cd and the guy selling the merch kept apologizing profusely because of how expensive the shirts were ($25) because they had to match the price of the headlining act. Whatever dude, I get it! So then he went searching for Kevin so we could meet him and get some autographs and he came out and was immediately intercepted by someone else. Okay. I can wait my turn (I was the first person out there but regardless) so then this other girl goes right up and interrupts them and starts talking to him, and then the merch guy tried getting him away from this girl (who at this point was telling him about choreography) and was trying to get him over to us when he was intercepted AGAIN. Whatever I can wait. but eventually I inched my way into the group conversation and then FINALLY it was my turn!
So immediately off the first thing I notice is how incredibly NICE it is. I told him that I'm actually canadian and he asked whereabouts and I told him Saskatchewan and he said "oh where in saskatchewan?" and first off I'm so used to saying where in canada saskatchewan is that I didn't notice that he was actually asking me WHERE in SASKATCHEWAN I was from, so when he asked me again I said Saskatoon, and he was like I'VE BEEN TO SASKATOON! I was like WHAT!? how did I not know that? where did you play? and he said "The...Wash N Slosh!" and I just burst out laughing and we were talking about the advantages of playing laundromat bars while on tour. Oh man. He's coming back to Houston in september and he'll have the goddamn band with him. he signed the cd I bought (split the country, split the street) and got a picture with him and he is so unbelivably cute in person. honestly I did not expect him to be that impossibly adorable and nice. OH AND THE BEST PART IS THAT HE WAS LIKE "OH I SAW YOU SINGING ALONG WITH COTTON CRUSH AND THAT MADE ME SO HAPPY" and its true cause we had like locked eye contact during the loud part until i finally had to look away and I probably started blushing and it was really fucking awesome that not only did we sing with each other (haha) but he recognized me after and commented on it that was so fucking great.

we came home and I was unbelievably excited and then rob surprised me with an ice cream sundae. I think he was trying to win my heart back from kevin devine...I guess it kinda worked ;)

these were taken by camera phone so they're not too great

This girl did backup singing for some songs. When he brought her out, he was like, "hey it's me and a friend singing, but the next act will be better. they'll have some fucking drums and shit!"

playing with the camera settings

and rightfully so. their harmony worked really well together, but she needs some dance lessons if you ask me.

Yep.

So here is a picture of the two of us and unfortunately I always look really dumb when I have my photo taken with people. I also look topless.

but again, camera phone.

HERE IS THE SHIRT I BOUGHT.

yeaaaaah boiii!!

and here is a picture of my signed cd. he started in two different places before finally writing what he wanted to write. I AM NEVER PLAYING THIS CD.

def. a top notch night.
