There have been many times that I've seen a movie after reading a book and thought that the book was much better. There have been occasions where I waited until after seeing a movie to read the book that it was based on, and I still thought the book was better.
This week, however, I've encountered a situation where I would rather see the movie than read the book. It's not that the book is bad, but that I just don't like reading this kind of material.
I've been reading "You're Next" by Gregg Hurwitz. It actually is well-written and the story has held my attention so far. However, the content is starting to get more violent and I really don't want to read anymore.
Brief synopsis: When he was four years old, Michael was left at a school playground by his father. Michael has no idea who he is or why his father left him there. Several years later, someone seems "out to get" Michael and he doesn't know why.
I was okay with the book until it started describing some of the violence the "bad guys" inflicted on people. I would be willing to watch - and I have watched - a two-hour movie or a TV show that contained the type of violence described, but I don't like reading it. (Incidentally, a search for "You're Next" brought up a few movie hits, including a horror movie that opens this week, but none of them are based on this book.)
Unfortunately, since this is an eBook, I can't even give it to someone else who might like the story.
