I spent all of my Saturday watching the entire first season of
Veronica Mars. There is a lot to say for this method of passing your weekend as this is the ultimate in "resting, doing nothing and recharging for the upcoming week".
So... Veronica Mars...
Veronica Mars is a mix of two kinds of storytelling. It combines a traditional show type - i.e. each episode stands on its own, with its own beginning, middle and end. Each episode ends with no loose ends (that are pertinent to that specific episode of course), and a main theme/mystery that runs through the entire first season - and that is who murdered Lilly Kane. While there are plenty of shows of the first kind (practically any sit-com and most drama shows) and there are a lot of the other kind (see Desperate Housewives, Lost etc.) - the combination of these two themes is intriguing. That said, I must admit that at times I couldn't care less for the episode's main story and just waited for new developments in the other front.
The show is very well done. It is beautifully shot and directed, the acting is good at most parts (personally, I dislike Enrico Colantoni as Keith Mars), cleverly written and manage to keep the suspense in both story lines. All in all it's a good show and quite entertaining... I guess that next weekend I will watch the 2nd season...
