Last night I finally got to see Sin City.
If I was to sum the entire movie in one word, it would be "WOW".
Also considered "amazing", "awesome", "mind blowing" and "masterpiece".
I never read the comic books (yeah, yeah, "graphic novels"). I don't know how the movie measure up to them, but this has to be one of the best movies I've seen visually. Every frame, every shot, every tweak in there is thought through. Absolutely amazing.
And then there is the story. It's a clever story. It is not random violence, it is not sporadic stories that has nothing to do with each other - the script reminded me in some aspects movies like Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs. It's a smart script, and a smart movie.
It's the best job I've seen translating a comic to the screen. The director just regarded the comic as his storyboard - you can actually see the drawings being duplicated on screen. Only attempt to revive a comic like that (as far as I can remember) was Dick Tracy, and that was in 1990.
This movie is a work of art. It's the Da-Vinci of movies. I should definately go see it again. Bravo!
