Or: How I was almost able to foil the kidnapping of a young woman.
It's about 2am in Tel Aviv. Maccabi Tel Aviv's fans already left Rabin Square. The city is asleep. Down Dizingoff streets only a handful of cars are driving by, including one silver Hyundai with two male passengers discussing and nitpicking the latest Star Wars movie.
-"And I tell you that Count Duco could have killed Anakin in that first battle"
-"What are you talking about? Anakin is so much more powerful than Duco!"
-"Oh yeah? So how come Duco used the force to beat the living crap out of Obiwan?"
-"Yeah!!... "
This is were the conversation was cut short.
While driving down the street we saw something that looked as if it was taken out from a bad mafia movie. Two guys were grabbing this young 20ish girl and were pushing her to the back seat of a taxi that was parked on the curb. The girl was screaming and flailing with all her strength, refusing to get in the car, she threw off her sandals and was now lying on the road yelling her lungs out.
Since I was escorted by a Champion of Justice (AKA: UA), and since I myself am quite the knight in shiny armour, I hit the brakes and stopped the car so it blocked the escape route of the taxi, then both me and UA rushed out of the car. UA quickly started yelling at the guys to let the girl go, and I dialed 100 to the police.
The conversation was something like that:
Dispatch (in a bored tone): "100 dispatch, how may I help?"
Me (talking fast with little pauses): "...Yeah, I'm in Dizingoff 170, and there are a couple of guys here who are trying to force a young girl in a cab"
Dispatch (in even more bored of a voice): "Yeah, we got a few reports about it"
Me: ....
(at that time one of the guys who were trying to get hold of the girl said he was from the ministry of health, and that this girl is an escaped mental patient or something like that)
Me: "The guy here is saying he's from the ministry of health..."
Dispatcher (almost yawning): "Okay then, I'll send someone over".
During that time the girl was able to shake off both guys and started dodging them... At one point she grabbed hold of the Champion of Justice and started begging "please, please protect me! they want to kill me". Our Champion was a little baffled and didn't say anything. The girl continued "they killed Rabin and now they want to kill me". After realizing her salvation won't come from our Champion, she ran over to me on the other side of the car and grabbed my arm repeating the same words over and over again. After giving up on me too, she preceded to run to the road and trying to get into passing cars. This was most surreal.
People from the street now tried to calm the girl down without much success. During these attempts, this guy approached the girl and asked her why is she running wild screaming and kicking. "They want to kill me the same way they killed Rabin" she yelled. "So? Is this a good enough reason to scream at 2am?"
After about 10 minutes two police cars stopped by. And after one minute of talking to the two guys that started it all, now 4 policemen escorted the girl to the taxi, but what do you know, she didn't want to get in and again started flailing about, but now she faced Tel Aviv's finest. Before long they managed to push her in the taxi that sped away.
After recapping the night's events we agreed that next time they should hit their victim on the head with a crowbar and stick her into the car's trunk.
Before long we were back nitpicking Star Wars and eating yummy steaks.
